I have a 1991 Golf ( series 1); sadly too young to be a classic caravan but it actually looks quite old fashioned from the design of the poptop. I havent been able to find any info on the history of the Golf marque except that they recently went under and the business been bought up by Avan. Can anybody help with the earlier history of Golf in the 1970.. ?

Hi Bedford, Golf (before Avan bought the name) were a top quality engineered caravan, with brilliant suspension designed by the owner Hugh Iserman. Made in qld in the late 70s until early 2000 I believe. Hugh was an engineer who designed lots of things into the Golf, made a nice slippery profile and lots of European influence. I have a friend who inherited an old one in new condition,he thought it looked old fashioned,I suggested he use it for a year then decide, that was eight years ago!He still has it and uses it constantly! IMHO one of the best modern vans ever made was the Golf Linwood, which are still highly sought after today. I believe Hugh sold his business to retire, the new owners put the prices sky high andwent down the gurgler, then Avan bought the name and put it on their version, which isn't a patch on the original. Hope this is of some help Cheers hughdeani
