Hi all.
just trying to get some ideas for an external 12v light (for under the awning) on my Arrow.
Wondering if it would be worth mounting a 12volt socket/holder inside the external original dome light (I do want to keep dome light 240 volt as well). Not sure if it would be bright enough........
has anyone done this, or have done something different ??
i will be mounting a cig lighter plug on the external of the van too.

I now have a 2000 Millard Monsoon and it has only an 18 watt (21candle power) lamp yes it is better than nothing however I am going to replace it with a modified, by removing the mounting and drilling a hole in the center and mounting on the center post of my external oyster light fitting for the LED replacement unit see image and link below: caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=12686Rattles

There's a fair bit of space inside those dome lights. There are rules on colour codes of wires for low voltage and high voltage in the same enclosure but I'm aware of no other issues. I have one of these on the back of my ute as a reverse light, it's tiny but powerful. Should fit inside the dome light angled downwards and be invisable to all but the keenest observers www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/231040700422Dimensions are on the last image of the advert

Thanks Rattles and Sean. Both ideas look like they'd work out ok...... Kinda like the idea of keeping the oyster light, with 240 and 12v system.

Yeah when the time comes mine will get a 12V light inside the oyster I'm putting a 12v globe under the existing dome as well. I,ve rounded up all the pieces (12v socket and correct coloured switch), just haven't found the motivation to fit it up. Job for next year. The pressed metal body of the light is premade for a 12v fitting. At present I use a 150mm ebay light bar that I place/hang wherever I need it.
