Hi all, I'm new to this, been a computer nerd for many years but never used social media or any of these chat rooms.. I've just purchased a 13ft york pop top that has been used and abused for many years. I intend on completely refurbishing it, but on closer inspection I have found that I may have bitten off more than I can chew! there is a bit of woodrot in the frame, luckily, I have a table saw and can rip down the 1" x 1" frame timber, I'm using tasmanian oak for this, think it'll last long enough.. the skirt on top is OK but the fly screens are ripped and missing, not sure what to do about this..the canvas has been sploched with white paint, is there a canvas paint I can paint it with? Not sure of the age of the van its VIN is YM201 maybe someone will know what year it is.. will keep in touch as work progresses... Ozkiwi

York produced pop top's from 1970 -1978/9, the YM stands for York Micro or Mini, the number 201 is the amount of chassis made. So your van was the 201st chassis, now given that it is a low number I would say it was built in 1970 and no later then early 71. I have heard of products you can put on the canvas for helping the waterproofing but not a paint. The flyscreens can be fixed by removing the p/t skirt and getting an upholster to sew some Velco around the windows and then make new section with flyscreen inside that can then be velco over the old. I hate timber and it hates me so will leave that advice up to others
Cheers

Hi all, work is slowly progressing on my 13ft york pop top, I am currently relining the interior with 4mm woodgrain ply I picked up from the local salvage yard for $10 bucks a sheet!! theyre 8ft x 4ft . I bought 6 sheets which should be enough to do the interior.. I have found a plague of cockroaches inside the van so I think a "bug bomb" will do the trick. I pulled one of the hubcaps off today and found a 5 stud 13inch wheel, I thought looking at the hubcap it was a early holden wheel but they are only 4 stud, so if anyone knows what brand of wheels these are I would be grateful.. the fridge doesnt seem to be working, its a gas/electric and hasnt been used for a few years, Ive heard rolling it around stirs up the ammonia in the tank and gets it working again, anyone got any ideas? ozkiwi

Mate you should start a thread on your Classic in our Hall Od Fame section HERE
With your fridge there is a thing called burping ?? it is where you remove it from the van and turn it over onto it's top for 10- 30 seconds and do that 4 or 5 times. I am not sure if it will work but worth a try. another way to check if the fridge is working is to run it on 240V and feel behind the fridge for warmth/heat. If it gets warm/hot the heating element is working but if the fridge is not cold or cooling (takes a couple of hours) then the gas has leaked and I'm not sure if it can be repaired ? Your wheel hubs are an easy one go HERE and start measuring and you will have an answer. Cheers
