Right, so fresh from finishing (almost) the Millard, I got myself another project - dont wanna be bored! A 1977 Range Rover Classic 2 Door, suffix D. Going to be doing a total restoration on it, however I am not going nuts but going showroom condition, in fact, I want to retain some of the worn, faded, patina look to reflect the true nature of its age. Has lots of rust in the usual spots, and of course I am going to be doing a video diary of my progress. Videos are on my channel, but this is the first one 'Taking Gertrude Home'

that poor red rangie .... what happened to it's lovely sounding V8 That's a big project, interiors shot, not running, the guards are all chopped. You may find you'll need to get a parts car to scavenge the panels from ( and in the usual tradition of buying a parts car .... end up using that one to rebuild instead as it turns out to be better than the "restorer" when you pull it apart LOL ). seeya, Shane L.

The red rangie has a stock isuzu engine, that thing has torque! Yes all that is planned in so far as a parts vehicle, already got the doors and front guards, need rear panels and thats complete. A two year project I am thinking, less depending on time and money.

Cool, fantastic tow vehicle - as long as you can afford to feed it!

Tim - it wont be a daily driver, in fact it will be used on sunny weekends and the occasional caravan duties, so not concerned about the cost. Thats why I have the diesel Discovery as the two vehicle

A mate of mine had the use of his Dad's Rangie in my student days - and his Dad's fuel account. I remember being surprised that it was a bit noisy at highway speeds, but extremely capable.
He used to do a lot of boat towing, so he gave it back to his Dad and bought a Series 2A with a 253 holden V8 which could rip the bitumen off the road. Last time I caught up with him he was using a Defender TD5 Extreme. No boat ramp is too hard!
I'd love a Disco or a Defender as a tow vehicle, but the Minister for Finance says the budget can't bear it.

They really need to be on gas if your going to drive them much. I doubt you'll ever get less than 20L/100km out of one no matter how gentle you drive They'd be an excellent thing to stick on a club permit! seeya, Shane L.

They certainly are excellent on a club permit. . I've got the 2 rover V8's on club permit -the RRC and the 101. . The RRC does around 18's and the 101 around 21 without the van on, and 25's with the van on.

Special Interest plate is going on for sure. My old 3.5 v8 4 door rangie was great on lpg and better on fuel, even with a virtually round cam! Luckily for us in Tassie, one is usually at a top destination within a few hours, even a long trip to the West Coast is about 4 hours. The Millard is going to look 'fully sik bro' being towed by the Rangie.

Well I think there is something wrong with my brain ............... My POS old Rangie shattered a front 'CV ... so needs a new transfer case as it's viscous coupling is obviously seized ....... So what is my answer to this problem.......... ?? I just bought another Range Rover .............. Great POS just like mine. That also has a broken transfer case and front axle (due to the stuffed transfer case). Smart right? Two Rangies with the same issue so still none that drive. Both with the same broken parts so I can't move the parts around to make one of them work Do I know how to impress my wife or what! seeya, Shane L.

Well Shane, just get onto AULRO as usual and see who has some spares. Having another RRC isnt a bad thing, these are getting rarer every year that passes so in 5 years time you will thank yourself for the bright idea to get one

Stick an LT230 transfer case in it and forget the BW POS.
Problem solved - forever.
