Hi all.
My name is Wendy and Ive been a fairly frequent visitor here for some time.
And especialy since my husband and I have become the proud owners of a little 12 foot "Capricorn Birdie Delux" Caravan.
My husband is very unwell and I thought getting the van was a good way to get out and enjoy some time together "free camping" next to nature.
Unfortunately Ive not got the skills to carry out repairs. And neither is my husband able to.
However Ive been having fun anyway "revamping" just by giving the van a bright happy look as is, in decorating it with a colourful "retro beach theme".
Due to my husbands illness we were both cooped up and isolated at home in drery depression.
But since aquiring our little Cappricon, I can now take him out every day to spend time in natural settings with trees, water and the sound of birds around us rather than the chaos and traffic sounds of suburbia where we live.
Its really been lovely.
He has his own comfy familiar bed to rest in whenever he needs to, and
we can move about to lots of different pretty locations as well.
I can cook and make "cuppas" whenever we like. And if we feel like it we can even sleep where ever we land, and wake up to the lovely natural surroundings.
The caravan has been a real blessing and Godsend for me re careing for my husband with an early onset dementia (FTD)
Its been "therapy" for BOTH OF US!
& truely a sanity save for me in particular. As we had become so isolated at home. Since he never wanted to make a move to go anywhere
We have had a few bare esential things fixed, on the van that really did need urgent attention. Carried out by a very experienced proffessional caravan repairer.
Yet theres no denying the caravan could definantly still use a lot of renovation work.
But for us for now, without having a lot of available skills, dollars, nor TIME, its "usable" as it is, and we really do just LOVE USING IT!
However, sadly as it turns out, there ARE some things that I DO NEED to attend to!
Our cute little Birdie Delux Caravan was maliciosly attacked by vandals and now has a gapping hole in the side paneling! : (
Its currently only covered by some white plastic tape to keep water out while I attempt to seek out some side panelling to repair it.
Its a profile that it seems is no longer available so it looks like I need to source out some pre loved sidding.
If you own, or have seen the model Im talking about you will know the profile.
As the van is still generaly all original, Id prefer, if at all possible, to not modify it with an additional dummy "vent" or mispositioned "porthole" to disguise the damage.
Originaly both sides are actualy vent free due to the front position of the fridge and cute little kitchen.
Is there a chance anyone here is able to help, or advise where I could possibly find some of this material?
Perhaps someone here is replacing such siding with a newer more modern profile, or demolishing a van with this type of panel on the side. Or perhaps someone might even know of someone who is.
If so, I would very much love to hear from you.
My life is quite overwhelming while currently caring for my husband, so I may not get to check back here as often as Id like to (As I love reading these boards since Ive really aquired a special interest in these nastalgic older vans).
So Im posting my mobile number here.
And would be very happy to hear from anyone via text message.
Im happy to be here as a new member and at last introduce myself.
Im looking forward to further involvement as time permits.
