I think to rebuild the roof to make it a solid one isn't a great idea. The wind resistance when travelling would be a nightmare. I would have thought that the structual integrety would be effected as well. If it needs a new skirt they aren't that expensive to be replaced. Have fun as it looks like an interesting project.

Hi CAP A couple of things to help you out, when you have time try and put your location in your profile, if you need help to this let me know and we can do a step by step this will let other members know when giving you advise on where to get products etc from. So when myself or another member says we bought this at "here" you know hey they are in Qld 2 min's from Brisbane and that price will be cheaper or dearer compared to where you live. The pop top on your van does have a cost but those costs ie to repair/replace will be made back on fuel savings when towing. Here is my little Millard ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2973/1978-millard-micro-recycled-classicI replace the skirt and it was approx. $700 and to tow my caravan is so simple as it has no wind resistance. Your van has the same shape as mine so I believe it would be called a York Micro or a Mini . Do you know if there are some letters and numbers up near the tow hitch would be good to know them too. Cheers

Thank,s just updated location still getting the hang of this
The letters that appear on draw bar are YM360.
Yes the skirt needs replacing but the wood on pop top is rotten too. The top looks bowed and twisted. The canopy lifters need replacing. I'll post some pictures once I get back out there. It sitting in paddock at moment in storage as I in middle of moving.
Thanks

Thanks Hi CAP - I just update your title on this topic so as you do things to your van it is all in here OK In your "profile" on the main page up the top is area that has "Update Status" to the right of it..fill in your location in that blank area and hit the "update etc" and you will have your location show up with your post under your pic. the 'YM" = either York Micro or Mini and the 360 means it was the 360th chassis/van build in that model. It may be a timber framed van, ie under the alloy skin is a timber frame and if there has been leaks the frame may have some issues with rot. First things first don't go mad pulling it apart yet, you will be best to check out as much as possible without pulling sides or inside apart/off plus look closely at the chassis all underneath too. Take lots of photo's and if your not sure what your looking at post them up and the guy's and gal's will let you know whats what OK. The quickest and easier way to make the van water tight is to put a tarp over it while your checking it all out and gathering information on what will need doing. I think this Millard restored by a forum legend AL is close to your van, notice the poptop is built from alloy. ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/119He did a lot of work on that van and it has bucket loads of photo's that will help you understand things you will see.
