Hi Folks , We are looking for a smallish van ( 13 foot or smaller )with 2 x single beds or that can be converted , that has been restored or is in really good condition , a metal frame would be good . I know that the Yorks have one but I don't know enough about vans to know what other brands have a metal frame . We just can't do any major reno work and want something that has good bones and is ready ( or almost ready to go ) . we live in S. E. Qld but are willing to travel for the right Van. Any pointers in the right direction greatly appreciated , regards , Ron . I have almost the same post on vintage vans .

G'day ivan. I know for certain that Viscounts from the 60s and the classic era (1970-1980) have aluminium alloy frames and that's why I'll always buy a Viscount if I can. They may have a few other issues but timber frame rot isn't one of them. Another thing is they're pretty tough. I lived in one at Rockdale about 10 minutes walk from the perimeter of Sydney Airport for about 2 1/2 years through all kinds of the coastal weather they get down there and it didn't leak once. Only after I brought it back to Newcastle did it start to leak and then only around the windows. That van has gone to a good use as a storage place at a half way house after I fixed the window leaks and I now have another Viscount Royal, a 1973 model.
Cheers, Ross.
