Hi! Hope you can help Currently this old girl is sitting onsite but needs removal off the site. Its not an issue as we can tilt tray due to the cyclone roof etc but looking long term whether she's worth it for our annual holiday. We holiday every year for 6 weeks in a caravan park about 40 mins from home. We are checking over the van to see what we have to do to get in registered in NSW. So firstly who has a check list of what needs to be done for NSW rego? Second we need more info on the van. Can anyone confirm the year of manufacture? If its a timber frame I think she will be heavy! I have read through the museum and we think it is 73/74 plus the gas bottle plate says 84 so we assume that needs to be checked every 10 years. We are trying to work out how heavy she is. 22ft and we know its a ROYAL chassis 9588A The chassis is good but needs new draw bar frame, brakes & wiring. Wheels spin and the bearings seem to be ok for tilt but prob need new ones next year. No probs we have people local that can do that for $$ of course! We will do as much as we can ourselves. No rego papers or details

G`Day and welcome shaedymac. To get NSW rego you can follow the advice on the Maritime & Roads site: www.rms.nsw.gov.au/search-results.html?q=caravan+blue+slipTo get a Blue Slip a new Gas Certificate is required, a weighbridge certificate, NOTE very handy to get the van weighed before to compare with after the resto!! Cost around the place seems to be $20-$35. Important is that once your caravan is roadworthy you can move it unregistered to weighbridge, blue Slip inspection place. Make sure you make an appointment with them so if Police ring up they can confirm you are legit organisingg rego not pulling a shifty!! Depending on when the van was last registered will be a VIN number, if there it will be a plate or number stamped on the chassis. This is not to be confused with the build number on the A Frame that mostly is built up tall in weld, in your case 9588A. Once registered it will need to be done each year with a pink slip inspection just like the cars. Ask your plumber about how often the gas cert needs checking, then confirm with R&M NSW

Hi
Your chassis number will be the key to the date of manufacture = 9588A if you read this POST you will see "Al" has pointed out now they numbered the Viscount after 1970. Forget about the date on the gas plate/bottle, it has nothing to do with the age of the van, but you will need to get a gas certificate for rego if you wish to keep the fridge and stove. Other then that I have no idea what NSW would want from you in regards to rego.
If you go to the Hall Of Fame thread you will find plenty of members who are repairing/restoring a Viscount Caravan, they will be the members who can help you with how to repair stuff on your van.
And welcome to the forum.

And welcome to the forum. Just to clarify my post above. Any new or re registration, if rego has lapsed more than 3 months after expiration, requires a new gas certificate and a new weighbridge ticket, even if it was only done the year previously. Do not let any NSW rego lapse if you want an easy time with just an annual roadworthy/ pink slip required.

gidday shaedymac
If 9588A is welded on your draw bar then this is your vans chassis number. These days people talk about a vin number (Vehicle Identification Number) This a relativly new reference and replaced the chassis no. The chassis number is what you will need registration.
Welcome aboard

Welcome aboard bobt In NSW a VIN number will be allocated to any trailer without one. If there was an old Rego sticker with only the chassis number they will still issue a new one and the blue slip inspector will create the VIN plaque and affix it.

Different states different pratices. In Victoria if you have a chassis number they use this as your vin number. If you don't have a chassis number then they will issue you with a VIN if you can prove ownership.

Yes but as shaedymac posted above Keeping it clear about NSW stuff only and not confusing the issue with generalisations or variables is a good way to go i think.

Any ideas on the year model?? Heya if you look around the Viscount sections here you will see that unlike say Franklins for example, this brand mixed it up a lot, even between size models. So without some pics showing the position of any original stripes, if not painted over, style of cladding pattern/ diamonds lapstrakes etc no guesswork can begin. I discoved i was lucky with my Franklin as the letter/ numbers run through all years and models.
