G'Day All, Some of you may recall I recently picked up a cheap Nissan Patrol, Well, last weekend I headed off to the Sunday Markets (always looking for a bargain) ;D ;D ;D Here's what I found, or rather almost tripped over......... It pays to leave it rather late to go to the markets as people are tired, hot and just want to get rid of stuff, The guy wanted $20.00 for this Wheel cover, He got $10.00 ...... the kiwi strikes again !! ;D ;D ;D Cheers All .....kiwijim ;D

Atog, "GEZ" if only I had known that you wanted a bigger Olympic...........bit late now.......it's gone. I'll keep my eyes open the next time I'm at the Markets, the funny thing is that if I want something, it usually turns up there with-in a couple of weeks.......... Should I find more than one Olympic......how many do you want ? ? ? ;D ;D ;D ;D "HEY" Bobt........ fancy saying an honest, hard working, sober Thomson Owner would ever think of nicking anything..... He He ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D never have I payed the asking price for anything............... my offer usually starts about 1/4 the value and love to haggle for a good deal........does pay most times. cheers kiwijim ;D

Hey Kiwijim The 21 foot Olympic is my great white whale Bought the 16 footer in Sept 07 because I couldn't find a Stardust with a full fibreglass underbody Which would have given me a 70's van ;D ;D ;D It has worked out well The mistakes are made on this van as well as refining my skills at van rebuilding So when that Moby D!ck of a van turns up ....... I'll be ready for it As is often my way ...... have spent too much money and time on this van It will be very nice when finished and hopefully there will be room to store both Still have to find a Drifter PanelVan Then there is a little matter of ...... cash All my cash has gone into the van and there is no reserve So unless the owners of any 21 footer are willing to wait a few months I am not currently in the market Doesn't stop me dreaming ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D When the time is right or the price is, I'll jump in with both feet Keep looking for me mate You do have room at your place until I can get over there to pick it up......... right? Cheers Atog

G'Day Atog, I know what you mean about money disappearing when doing up a Classic, I haven't made any attempt to add up the cost of the Thomson, and I don't intend to..........probally have a heart-attack if I did. Now about the Mighty Olympic....... you mentioned the name Stardust, is this a model of the Olympics ? As for the Panel-van........well they ain't that easy to spot any longer, best of luck finding any still in good condition, if you do find one you will probably have to win the lottery to get your hands on it. Yes...I should be able to find room to store an Olympic for you should I come across one, that is as soon as I dispose of the fleet of Falcons and Mitz Utes I have lying around here, the Bride is acting up at the moment about all the scrap iron lying around, my answer to that is .....the Chinese ain't buying any scrap at the moment, her answer...... GET RID OF THEM.........yes dear mumble mumble .......whack whack I shall be posting a picture of the new Annexe light on the Thomson.... in operation.... as soon as I take the picture, only problem is the sun is still shining here ( 8.00pm ) then I have to face that crazy Photo bucket again. cheers kiwijim

Hey KiwiJim
Mate I've kept a running tally of the cost related to the 16' Olympic and it past 10K ages ago (This including purchase price) With what is left to do it will go a lot closer to 20k than 10 Stuffed if I know how or where the money came from but that is the joy of doing it bit by bit..... Less painful ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Yep ..... the 21 footers were called Stardusts Information supplied by Boblor
Mate it is money and more money in the case of a pvan Have had discussions with Olfarts as he has photos of a Drifter and recently one in SA for sale..... 10K ..... Weeeeeelll if I save and skimp for a couple of years....
If you find an Olympic in WA And... I have enough money Might take you up on the storage thought - thanks ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Cheers Atog

Atog, ;D ;D ;D Loveshack over in the VV dept has a very spiffy 16ft Olympic: it had clearance lights that were the shape of a heart, plus exterior two-tone high-gloss cream with wide black striping ... AND I think they came from WA. ;D ;D Kiwijim has company if true!! ;D
Cheers Mike ;D ;D ;D

Hey Mike I met Loveshak and its owners ;D ;D ;D ;D Lovely people We had dinner at my place before they left Cairns... November from memory Part of the joy of V V or Classic caravans You get to meet people that otherwise would just pass through Yes they are Sandgropers.... eeerrr Westralians ....... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D The Olympic they did up is the best I've seen so far Because of how some of the work was done, it inspired me to make some changes to mine Currently working on those changes...... More info later. Having just had 3 weeks holidays there was a lot done on the Olympic. Hence the rash of posts from me I guarantee it will slow down as of next week...... Back to work Thanks for the thought though Mike Cheers Atog

G'day Gang, I thought it was about time that the NISSAN had another Birthday, So I grabbed the local "Free to advertise" Newspaper and went hunting for a good cheap Bull Bar, I found one at 6.30am and had it in my hot hands by 8.00 am I'm pretty happy with the cost......$150.00 Got it home and only took a hour to fit it and the spotties which came off the old Mitz ute I had. Another step nearer to setting off on the big trip. kiwijim

Hello there Bobt,
When will we land in Tassie you ask, Good question,
Going by the Cheese & Spice, we are hanging around here for the Kids Xmas party then So I've been told we will be on our way the next day.
I have been checking the Spirit Of Tasmania's schedule and it appears that they class the dates between the end of Dec and the end of Feb as being the Off Season.
This means the fares are a lot cheaper, especially if booked over the INTERNET,
Still costs a bundle....$77.00 for a pensioner and around the $400.00 for the 4x4 and caravan, thats one way, I wont be booking a return fare as we don't know when we will return to the Main-land, depends on the temperature up the East Coast,
we may be stuck there for a few months, especially if we head right down the bottom end and say G'day to Murray.
"lucky Bugger" you say ;D ;D "Yep" were really looking forward to it.
So to answer your question.........I would say sometime in late January would be close.
cheers kiwijim ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey there Bobt, Well well well.........So you also have decided to head for the Apple Isle, that's good news, now if we could encourage a few more like a certain gentleman (sweating away up north) to hook-up and join us we could really make a "Classic Rally" out of it...... "ANY MORE TAKERS OUT THERE" ;D ;D ;D Yes, I have looked at the day-time crossing to Tassie, I think that is the one we will go for, At the moment we haven't made any bookings as I don't want to be under any pressure to make the big hop from the West by a certain date. I had to do that many years ago, back in 74 (before the road was sealed) We got to the end of the seal (WA side) and found the Nullarbor was closed because of two weeks of rain, We had booked our car on the ship to head for N.Z. so had two days to be in Sydney. All I could do was spray a full can of C.R.C. over the motor, turn the air filter toward the Fire-wall and attach a rubber hose to the exhaust pipe and tie it to the roof-rack. We did the next 150km in first gear with water bow-waving off the wind-screen, heater going flat out to pressurize the interior, The H.T. Premier never leaked or missed a beat and we made it with half a day to spare, but the strain was terrific, So never again, I would rather get to Melbourne at our own pace then do the booking, If we have to wait a week to do the crossing.....not a problem, there's plenty to see around that Neck-of-the-woods. "Yep" we will keep in touch for sure. Cheers kiwijim.

Hey kiwijim Your retired... so no reason to book and get stressed.. now that is rather impressive... 150k in a HT through water and by the sound of it... deep... . The old holden is pretty durable you would never get away with that in the current model.. The electronics would fail as soon as they got a hint of moisture.. Not taking the caravan for this trip..

Hey there Bobt, "Yep" your right about the modern car in that water, "KAPUT" straight away, I've got to hand it to the old Holden, we were amazed that it made it through that water which was deep alright, The only way we could tell where the road was, was to keep checking for the ripples of brown water breaking over the gravel that had been graded up along the side of the road. Along the way we caught up with a couple of other motorists, so forming a convoy and looked out for each other. We had just made it to dry high ground and stopped for a breather when we heard a roar of a small Datsun coming up behind us, he was making a bow wave about 3mt high, he pulled up beside us with a grin on his face, turned out to be a Uni Student who had to be in Melbourne by that night, I asked him ...how come all the noise, "Hell" he said ....struck a bit of a deep spot back down the track, lost all the exhaust in it. With a wave he roared into gear and with-in a 100mt completely disappeared under water, we were about to dive in after him when he re-appeared firing on 2 pots and roared off into the distance........never saw him again. Crossing the country those days was an adventure, not nearly as boring as it is today. Cheers kiwijim

It'll be a long time before the Olympic shifts out of the yard Would love to go to Tassie again The Missus loved it and we only got two weeks there Never got to the West coast or below Hobart Too much to - see too little time Take your time Jim it's a beautiful part of this wide brown land Cheers Atog

Howdy there Atog, "Yep" you were spot on guessing who I was referring to, ;D ;D ;D Not to worry Mate, I guess if we can't meet-up in Tassie, we will have to come a knockin. ;D ;D ;D Sometime next year, when the Humidity and heat has come back down to something reasonable. The main-land is going to be hard to take after spending all of summer away down South on the Apple Isle. Cheers kiwijim
