Hi there, I'm searching for any information on my new to me Viscount Caravan, it's not rounded like all the ones I see on this forum. In particular I would be very interested in knowing an approximate year of manufacture- thanks for any help in advance

Hi Kate, The Ranger was the "El cheapo" version of Viscount, with a plain interior and minimum frills and minimum colour choices. Personally I quite liked the basic look, but alas the buying public didn't as they weren't around for long! They ranged in size from your 13ft to a 27ft tandem or Tri-axle. From memory they came out in 1975or76 and were only built for 2. Or 3 years.
The outside stripe was green, and on commercial models(roadwork vans) the stripe was orange, Hope this is helpful to you. Cheers hughdeani

G'day Kate,
Your chassis number of T56469 gives you all the info you need for the year of manufacture. The Ranger model was given the "T" prefix to distinguish it from the Supremes, Royals, and Ambassadors. The first number "5" is the year of manufacture = 1975. The balance of the numbers - 6469 - means your chassis was the 6,469th chassis that Viscount built in 1975, which would make it in the second half of that year.
cheers, Al.

Thanks so much lockyer, hughdeani and pisces51 for your replies- this is great information! Now can I be so bold to ask how do I go about restoring this little beauty? I have started stripping her as there's a lot of water damage inside. Is it true that the fixings are to the outside walls- ie cabinets, beds etc are these fixed from the outside? And what about window winders- are these complete mechanisms still available?

Hi Kate
When being made in the factory they usually installed the furniture and inside walls first and outside walls last, but you by no means have to do it that way, the fittings are connected to the frame.
Check out the many good restoration threads in the Hall of fame section. They will answer many of your questions and have great photos
