The Orange is a 70/71 Ford Orange, 330 Acrylic "D" raw orange. EDIT " Vermilion Fire" I would not have attempted this on my own, our friend has had a lot of experience, but even he was surprised at the volume to be sprayed,he is used to cars, hence we ended up with some flat areas, with the white, untill the thin coats were applied with clear. we also had two compressors hooked together. The orange in his words was easy. I love the combination its very fresh & of course "Classic" Cost of materials: 20 x wet & dry, general thinners 28 liters, clear 4lt, White paint 6 lt x Orange 1/2lt, premium thiners 10lt , filler, etch primer, pots, funnels, scourer pads, roof pack, 6 rolls tape, bottle of scotch ,misc $950.00

Mate that looks superb! Makes the polished windows/doors really stand out too. I can't imagine these vans would have looked as good as this leaving the factory! Your mate feel like spraying another one?? Only 11 hours away according to google maps...happy for a run up the coast! haha
One of the best renos I have followed on these forums.
I bet every time you rock up to a caravan park you are going to have a hard time going about your business without a constant stream of interested fellow campers swinging by for a chat/sticky beak. You are going to have to keep the inside just as clean!

You can save a lot of coin by using enamel. You painter friend would no doubt prefer to use the products he is used to spraying ( I don't blame him ). The white enamel from supercheap is a bargain and applies quite well..... YOU CANNOT OVERPAINT ENAMEL WITH ANY SORT OF ACRYLIC PAINT THOUGH!!!!! (yeah I've learnt that one the hard way all to often). So you would need to choose the strip colour from supercheap in the same enamel too I've painted quite a few cars with acrylic laquer, the amount of paint you use is incredible (most of it blows away and lands as overspray). seeya, Shane L.

You are on the money there Shane, but we choose acrylic over enamel due to the movement of an old van. We have a few flat spots I want to polish out. We are giving a couple of weeks to harden up then I will apply my decals , then polish.

Will probably use 2 pack on mine -! There are some very good flexible 2 packs around now that don't crack like some of the older ones. I too am lucky to have a friend in the industry who runs his own industrial coatings buisness, so I'll be guided by him when the time comes.
If I can get it looking like this one, I'll be stoked, but it is many months away I feel at this stage.

they reckon the protek industrial paints are really good for this type of thing (and reasonably priced). There is a flex additive you can add to activated paints if required. You know, the roof and bonnets of cars move around way more than caravan panels do, so I wouldn't be the slightest bit concerned about using any of these paints on a caravan seeya, Shane L.

That orange stripe looks great. It makes the old girl look very smart that's for sure. I want to paint over the yellow on my viscount and wasn't sure about the bright colours of yesteryear but you have changed my mind. I am over canary yellow but another bright colour might make its way onto the van. Great work by the way. Lots of rubbing needed to get it ready that's for sure.

So not long now and Vincent will be on the road ?? Mate that look fabulous I hope to re-connect the gas soon, it took all day to redo the electrical connections as the new were different to the old, then we are off to Tassy for Xmas, (in the modern) so the double bed will wait untill we are home in Feb. So glad its painted before the summer.

Went to the Gas Dr today. After last weeks phone call he suggested re-connecting gas to an old dodgy van was not advised. We turned up at 7.30 today & how a coat of paint makes all the difference!!! He was all over it. So booked in next week for new regulator, lines, 3x way fridge & cooker hookup etc.

Protek is the brand we used.

More fine work on the paint and interior. Shmbo wants a red theme inside, my son and i just asked her to make sure its not 'girly' so keeping it retro enough for us boys You didnt use the curtain wire i noticed, any reason why?

There are wires for the netting, the original Net curtains were rotten & I havn,t got around to replacing them, but I think we will. Rods & holders were in place we just continued the theme. With the bay windows the rods are able to "curve" the corner.

Today Vincent went to the gas shop. Backing over two lanes of peak hour traffic was interesting 4.5 hours later the fridge was on gas & an outside bayonet was in place. Being there was a plus as the guy never stopped, I made the coffee. The mirade of parts required by todays standards is amazing. Tip: if you are on gas & registered....do NOT let the rego run out, while you are renovating.

Some very wise words there When I was looking at getting our "classic" it was how I worked out what I believe the van's valve was. If it had a working fridge =$$$ If it rego = $$$ and a gas certificate = $$$, there are other things/costs to take into account but they were on top of my list.
Looking spectacular Mustang.

Or, you could just live in Victoria, where none of that stuff is checked when you get rego on your van. If your lights are working, you pay your $55 and drive away.
