Who, what, where, would like to find out all there is to know about the over-ride brakes on my Millard Micro, they measure 8" and the pad is approx. 1.25" wide. I can get a new axle and hubs and transfer the old brakes across but I think you cannot get parts for them, there is nothing on the net about 8" brakes.
Cheers

Hey Lockyer
Is there a "Brake & Clutch" type place near you? They may be able to help, the parts used will have been common in the day so I am sure if you have a good local mechanic he will be able to help you.

What I would really like to know is it worthwhile cleaning up and repairing the 8" brakes or should I just get the 9" one's. It is not a matter of cost but more a matter of what parts are available and/or will be available if repairs are needed when away from a capital city. When we went out west with our camper trailer we would take a 2nd spare tire and a complete spare axle hub. Because we ran into some people who has blown a tire and there spare had a slow leak but the local mechanic had no 13" tires and to order one in cost them $90 in courier fee's.
From my searches on the WWW I cannot find anyone who supplies 8" brakes or parts but everyone has 9 and 10" brakes.
Cheers

Hey Lockyer
I would strongly recommend going the full hog, new axle new brakes new wheels. And when I travel I would carry spare wheel bearings spare studs and nuts. 14" wheels are the way to go but do you have the room for them. I have 13" holden wheels on my car trailer I have not had any trouble getting light truck tyres for it. But then I live in the burbs..
Electric brakes. You just cannot beat them.

Happy to pay as still 900ish klm to go. A long time ago I learnt that when travelling out west (250klm +) don't expect the small town's to carry much in spare parts for any thing other then Nissan or Toyota 4WD's. It was the same with tyres, so whenever we go places where there is a chance we could have an issue we take extra spares with us. One time while in NW NSW, we stopped for fuel and watched a fairly new Mazda getting loaded onto a tilt tray, I asked what was wrong and it had a electrical fault, maybe the coil and because no mechanic in that area it was getting shipped back to Tamworth, would hate to guess what that was going to cost, towing some 400klms +.
I don't take a second spare wheel only a tyre and if I have to use my spare, then the next place that can fit a tyre make themselves a few bob.
Cheers
