Howdy to all. Hope all are well & I will take this chance to wish you all a very merry christmas & a healthy happy new year. Now, I have an 11ft, 1972 Modern caravan from W.A. It's never had breaks, but here in Victoria, anything over 750kgs has to have breaks. Just curious folks, what do you reckon the average 11 footer would weigh? I know I have to get it weighed eventually, but while I'm still working on it, it would be nice to know.
It will be getting towed behind my HR, so it's probably worth having brakes on the van anyway.

G`Day Bryan & a Happy Christmas & awesome New Year for you and the Family I seem to rememver reading around here somewhere a post by our Global Mod "at large" Bob who said something about 52 to 54KG per foot ? ( our more established & experienced members here can correct it) was a good guide for classics, i would guess, as modern vans seem to be heavier with all the stuffs that say 60KG per foot may be a ball park (710ish). Better to have robust strong tyres and mega breaking ability and the relaxed journeys thay provide than the stress of being on the edge or worse having an oops rather than an adventure.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year also. My 11ft Millard Micro 1978 is listed on the Qld rego papers as having a Tare 530kgs and an ATM 750kgs. From looking at the springs and tyres the 750kg ATM would be correct. So you may be OK with your van and if I wanted too, I could remove the brakes from my van going by the Qld rules - but I'm not.
When I first checked the rego number on the transport dept website it had it rated up to 1020kg !!! But I later found out this was the class/cost of rego for light weight trailers, ie any trailer up to 1020kgs pay's one amount and if between 1021kg and 3500kgs you pay more.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought the weight would be pretty much on the border line, but for piece of mind, & to avoid the "oops" element, I think it is worth putting brakes on it then. Especially when my HR is drums all round. Cheers, Bryan
