Hi I just brought myself a 1979 viscount pop top well I think that's right anyway. Has a saggy wooden roof that I need to repair and no bed etc. I am planning on kitting it out for me and my adult daughter to retrace my route from my teenage trip of 1983 right round thru and across this great country. Couple of problems I face firstly I know nothing of caravans (last time had a hr wagon) and secondly I don't really know how to fix em. I am a pretty handy chap so I will give it a shot. I have posted some pics hoping you guys may be able to give me some hints tricks etc starting with the price Cost $1100 to buy it and get it to melb from Adelaide it apparently has some crank thing to raise the roof that the guy said works but had to put wood blocks in as roof sags do u think that sounds feasabile

Hi Gypsy1, Unfortunately your van is not a Viscount,it's a Jayco wind up pop top.The year is right though! They were the first of the Jayco pop tops that were full length and width roofs that used a camper trailer windup system,a good system for their time. We don't talk about prices on here, can open a can of worms!if you are happy with what you paid, then it is a good price. Good luck with your resto! Cheers hughdeani

Giday mate Yeah I am happy with the price I am driving down from Melbourne to Adelaide tomorrow to pick it up. Bloke tells me it should tow ok so I guess will be good test for my 4WD my hope is that I can repair the inner wooden frame and put the Aluminium back on and replace the inside roof and reattach the material. I have no idea about the power system in them in terms of 12 v and normal power but with the help of a few friends I should be able to muddle through. Any advice from members would be well received
