G'day all, how do you find out the official weights for a caravan? I am in the process of restoring my 40 year old caravan - has been locked in a shed for the last 25 years in the bush, so has had little use & am about to get it registered. do any members have a 16ft Franklin currently registered? what weights do your rego papers state, I understand they are all different & I will be weighing mine for rego. - my question is just for a guide, many thanks, regards, dingo

Depending on which state you are in, if it's been previously registered you can take the vin to the DMV/transport and they can obtain the previously registered figures (not just weights but dimensions etc) for your specific van. Keep in mind though if there have been any changes this won't be accurate. With my van I had to have a HVRAS certificate completed to update the details at QLD Transport. The process for me was: Weighbridge Cert HVRAS Cert Safety Cert Gas Cert This kept the ladies at the transport department happy. Looks like there are a couple of 16' Franklin owners floating around so they will be able to help with their weights, but I suspect you will be looking at a tare around 8-850. Maybe less if its a pop top. Cheers

My spartan 75 Frankin Arrow weighed in a Tare of 954KG & is allowed a GVM of 1500KG, In NSW you can make an appointment with a weighbridge & drive, as long as the vehicle passes all the other roadworthy requirements, cost is $25. They also give you your tow ball weight, when doing the biz. I hope if i get the old stove & fridge out i can get 30-40KG lighter all up, with more modern replacements.

thanks for that - what is a HVRAS certificate? Heavy Vehicle Registration Assesment Scheme. It is required for caravans over 750 ATM to change details at the transport department (they only allow self assessment for caravans under 750kg). Cost me $50 to have one done. Where are you located? I can highly recommend a guy in Qld.
