Hi all, I'm currently doing up an 11 foot Chesney President with a front kitchen and double beds. There was no fridge in it but the vents for one are on the right hand side, just in front of the bed. To free up space I'd like to install a small 3 way fridge in the front left hand corner of the van, the vents would be in the front wall. Is this a a bad idea? Any thoughts most welcome

Just my thoughts, but any vents/holes in the front of the van is probably not a good idea especially when it rains and you are travelling on the road. Hard enough to keep the water out of the windows that were supposedly designed to be waterproof when closed. Graham

Yes thought about that and exhaust fumes as well, might have to rethink

Also if pressure buildup during driving could cause damage to the van and possible blow out of windows or worse.

If you go with a small compressor fridge 12/240v instead of the 3 way then there is no real need for the vents to the outside provided that there is adequate ventilation around the fridge and that the warm air has a means of getting away from the unit and out into the open and that can be the inside of the van which helps a bit in winter, but can be a bit of a problem in the summer.
The 12/240v one that we have fitted to our van does not generate a lot of heat compared to the 3 way one and it just vents mostly into surrounding cupboards which have air flow between about 4 metres of cupboards and some small (50mm) holes were cut into the inside lining in the cupboard behind the fridge to allow air to flow in between the inner lining and the cladding on the outside. Our fridge has an original fitting (12v) of a fan that helps to move the heat away from the area

Thanks Graham, have been thinking about going the 12 volt route, quite like the idea and I'm looking at a second hand upright Engel that is about the same size as my old 3 way. It would certainly solve a lot of problems and I could easily vent it out the side of the van

In what area are you located? and How much for the old fridge?

Ho, I'm in Mount Molloy on the Atherton Tablelands, in far north Qld. I've got a friend who may be interested in the old fridge as well, I'll let you know.

Thanks --- I think, for now, it's a little bit too far for me to pickup.
