Hi everyone. First time posting on here so I hope it works. I have receintly purchased a 21ft 1971 Travel home caravan it is in EXCELENT all original condition and had been in the same family since new. It's a three room layout with a bedroom at the front with three bunks and cupboards kitchen and dine in the center and a double bed in the room at the rear. We are very happy with it so far and can't wait for our first trip away in it. I'll try and put a few photos up of her if I can. But if anyone has any info on these vans I would love to here it. Thanks in advance.

G'day nathan, and welcome to the forum! We don't get to see a lot of Travel Home vans, and those that we do see are the smaller ones, much smaller than yours. You can see the other threads about Travel Homes in this link: Search resultSounds like you've got a great van. Pretty rare to find one of these old vans in excellent condition, so you've done well. Now all you have to do is show us some photos! Also don't forget to tell us the chassis number on the front drawbar. Looks like the Travel Homes got a chassis number starting with the letters 'TH', followed by some numbers. cheers, Al.

You can post photos via the Attachment method, or you can post them via a photo hosting website, such as Photobucket. People post them from their mobile phones, iPads, computers, whatever.
See how you go with the Attachment method first.
cheers, Al.

There ya go, nathan...persevere and you get there in the end with the photos! That's a very, very nice van. Lots of beds to pack the whole tribe in. Still looks like it came out of the factory yesterday. Did you happen to find the chassis number on the drawbar? I don't know whether it would have been welded on, or stamped on. If it was stamped, it might be on the steel plate that the coupling is bolted to. Let us know if you find it and we can add it to the heading of this thread. I seem to remember we had that same "Jack The Ripper" snooker picture in our house when I was growing up, or I've seen it somewhere else before (memory is a bit 'iffy' these days ) cheers, Al.

Hi Nathan, What a fantastic original van! Travel home were built by a Dutchman in Kilsyth or Bayswater if my memory serves me right. He was quite tall,so all his vans had good height in the centre, hence the very high round pitch. I see it even has the plastic turn to open cupboard door handles, don't break any,you won't find replacements anywhere! These vans were sold as a cut above the rest, with wood grain panelling that wasn't available in any other brand, and I can't tell from your photos, but a lot had a canite ceiling giving good insulation. I 'm sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of her. BTW,what are you towing with?Dont go by the rego papers for the right weight, back then van weights were just guesstimated! Cheers Hughdeani

Thanks Al and Hughdeani, Yes we are very happy with the van. It has been garaged all it's life and is in very straight and original condition. I re sealed the roof lastweekend. Just befor we had all the wet weather hit Adelaide. And have not had any issues except for a slight leek at the back window. As for a tow vehicle, we have a pajero. It sat behind it quite well. The rego papers said it weighed 1250kg which I found hard to believe. But the paj has a towing limit of 2500kg and had no problems. Heading away in the van next weekend and can't wait. Will be sure to put some photos up when she is all set up.

Here is a photo of our first camp site in the Travel Home. I was very impressed with the van. It towed well. We had the fridge and stove running on gas and 12v lights in the van which made camping a breeze. The only problem was a blowout on the way home. But no damage was done (thanks to metal wheel arches) don't think the new plastic ones would have been unharmed. I will be fitting a new set of tires before the next trip.. Attachments:

G'day nathan, If you are fairly new to caravanning, we've got a couple of threads from the past, that have some useful information about tyres... Tyre life and aged tyre hazardsTyres for caravansYou were very lucky that no major damage occurred. It could have easily been a different story, hey! cheers, Al.

Hi Al. Yeah very glad that its a tandum caravan the extra row of tires helped alot. I knew the tires were getting on a bit, but I checked them over visually before the trip (which was only an hour from home).. and thought they looked fine. we were averaging 85-90 KPH for the trip, so I wasnt asking anything to extreem of them. but as I said before, the will now all be getting changed before the next trip.
