Isn't it great when things workout as they should .... especially when we fix it ourselves & not have to pay someone to fix it.

Hi Ted, oh yeah, got to admit i dont know what i would have done if it was still leaking i worked out, $300 later and no leak, all that was spent on the sealer all up so now i can put the ply back on the rear wall and start making my cupboard doors Regards Peter

Coming along alright Pete, Sorry haven't been on I explained it in my PM to you. I hope I haven't already told this story but I done a full reno on an old 78 empire poptop including build a new roof frame. I spent 6 months and countless dollars rebuilding and resealing that van and took it away with my daughter one weekend, it rained and where did it leak in? right over my bed. I know this sounds far fetched but I swear its true I woke up drowning as it was dripping into my mouth as I lay asleep. Well I cracked it went home and could not find where it was coming in so I sold it. Yes I did tell the new owner at the time it still had a leak and where it was leaking in van. I WASNT HAPPY! Here is the empire

Up to you to what do though I suspect you are masking a bigger in just doing a repair as you have done, no amount cover up repair will fix a structural fault like that you have water damage and how far it goes Is to anyone's guess
Given rotting damage I've seen I would strongly suggest replacing the whole roof, anywhere you have chipboard and 2ply it will be a gut job to remove it
If you have electrics running in the roof I strongly suggest doing investigations on how far the water damage has gotten over the years, trying seel something that has had water damage will end up costing a fortune in corking solutions when in fact you need to replace the whole inner and out structure of the roof. Moulds will penetrate woods if given enough to damp and moisture conditions.
if you any bodge work repairs on the skin around your windows it might pay to take back to bare metal and get a oxy set and solder iron and redo the damaged areas.
leaving poor Bondo repairs in place may to more rust in the metal may cause metal fatigue.
i notices some Bondowork likely from previous owner
note something to consider may want install a air deflector on top of you land cruiser, I find the 4wds of the last 20 years have produced for city use only as people movers as you may note the aerodynamics of the vehicles, whilst they can be made to tow a trailer, boat or caravan the reality is they are designed as a ride-in confort vehicle rather than a Jack of all trades for off-road and towing things..
the wind deflector for the wind to ride over the caravan rather than circle off the roof of 4wd and hit cv causing stability issues

Well Guys after have 5'' of rain from Cyclone Marcia the right hand side of the window is leaking again Im thinking of putting some thing above the window to spear the water off, this will be above the window and come down the back of the window about 4'' This is the only way i can see that i can stop the water, all the timber in the rear has been replaced and the rest of the van is sealed If any one has some ideas on this that they may have done to there van please let me know asap and pics please Regards Peter

Curious... is the water actually leaking into the cabin... or just down the inside of the aluminium sheeting? If it is just in the inside of the aluminium sheet, may not be a problem.
I suspect my windows leak as well, but considering the frame is steel/ aluminium I see this as a non-issue. The water would just run down the steel frame down to the metal trailer frame and out of the caravan. Ive had no sign of water in the cabin (and been in some pretty heavy rain over the past few months).
Of course: if your trailer is wood frame, that could be another mattter? Also if the leak is in the roof, that is also another matter....

Thanks kharde Yes the window frame inside is wood and theres a timber down right on the window frame right where the join of the window frame meets, im thinking its leaking there but what ive done today as a make shift only is I went the bunnings a bort a roll of that black Ali stuff that goes under windows, its about 6''wide, ive sili that to the curved part of the van and its over lapping the rear window on the outside by 5'' This is onlt to cover the top of the window to eliminate the fact that water cant get in to the top of the window Im hoping this works, if not water is coming in from some where else, but i dont think it is, im sure its the window frame Regards Peter

Wood frame..... Gotta find that leak.
Get a friend to spray a garden hose on the window and see exactly where the leak is? Could be a very quick sikaflex job......

Like i said if you use 400-800 wet & dry on perspex ( to create a mechanical bond) then using anything from aradite to silicone will not leak & will even resist minor twisting!

Sorry I'm confused. Why did you use super glue (was it the ordinary super-glue you get from the $2 shop??).
Would the superglue have caused the Sikaflex to not stick (or leak)? The surface needs to be clean if you want the sikaflex to seal properly.

I riveted Aluminium in place of a window. Works well.
Found the cheapest was to buy the the flat Aluminium sheet from Bunnings, double it over (otherwise it's too thin).
Used Sikaflex Pro to bond the two aluminium sheets together and sikaflex pro to seal the sheet to the rest of the caravan.

Oh... put I also put a vertical piece of wood as extra framing down the middle of where the window was.... the aluminium sheet has too much flex without the extra supprt...
