Fully agree with Greedy53. Look at the photo 1 of my van: ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2980/man-van-18-viscount-1974It think this is exactly what Greedy53 is suggesting. Bought a piece of aluminium from Bunnings, doubled it up (gluing with Sikaflex) as it was too thin. I then proceeded to pop-rivet the piece in place, sealing/ gluing with sikaflex. I'm so glad I did this because my van just went the the Brisbane hale storm. If I did what you are proposing....it would have been fun trying to replace the permanent "hale damaged" perspex. (The hale storm set my van back by a fair bit.. .but it now has the thumbs up from the local caravan builder, so all good). Note: There was not enough structural support behind the window to stop it the aluminium from flexing too much.. I needed to bolt a peice of structural timber (to the frame) to ensure the peice did not flex too much in the centre of where the 2 windows were

Thanks kharde, ive got 4.5mm perspex so really like to sit it in the frame and 4.5mm wont flex, how do you recon it would go Regards Peter I dont like the idea of the ali on it only, at least with the clear perspex its a clear window

4.5mm perspex could be alitle thick to fit in a window frame. Cut a peice and see if it will fit. Pretty sure someone recommended 3mm perspex to me (I used 3mm).
Check eBay for 3mm perspex... a number of wholesalers should come up.. full sheets are not that expensive... just make sure they are UV treated)
Note: Flex is not an issue if you are fitting glass/ perspex inside a window frame. Flex only becomes an issue if you decide to remove the window frame and cover the hole with aluminium sheeting.

I think these locks varied according to where the van went, mine has a primitive lock that only secures the top half of the door fly screen bit then just a latch that stops the door flying open when travelling, mine was a static caravan park Arrow, according to the previous owner.

Maybe we need a thread ( for sale?) where we can say what we need & from where, as folks travel around.

I took my door handle and original lock right off and replaced them with a Marine grade SS combination lock (so the kids can easily get in and out when the van is locked)
There were a few holes to fill, so I filled the hole with Sikaflex and some aluminium rivets.

Hi Guy Well finally got the rear window frame stripped down so now we can see where it was leaking. On the top in the corners is like a 'Z' cut where the top rail fits the side piece, i have got the frame now so it all sits snug and neat. The inside is where ill put SIKA 291 and stick the perspex in, i havent been able to find a seal to hold the perspex in as nothing suites the frame so ive been told Instead of using the sealer to put on the perspex a boat builder told me to use 'SUPER GLUE' its the same stuff as the prima any way thinking of sticking the frame in the caravan with SIKA 11FC, dont plan on taking the frame out in my life time and put a bead of 291 on the frame and sit the perspex in, with taped edges for a clean look, and then another layer on the top of the perspex to finish it of now all that said, whats your thought, heres some pics Regards Peter

Sounds good Peter, remember to use tape & mask all of the clear area of perspex, if it does not already have the brown paper-plastic one side protection already on it, or if only on 1 side. Super glue cannot be wiped off so best to fit into the frame before you try & fit the unit into the van as gravity is king! Also grab super glue (cynoacrylic acetate) from the boat builder as not all super glues are equal by any stretch of the imagination! Here is to seing your progress & finishing touches!

Thank Atefooterz Yeah ill go to the boat builder and they told me to put the SUPER GLUE on the perspex on both sides and let it dry before i put the SIKA 291 on At least in that pic i put up i could see now where the bloody thing was leaking The perspex has paper on both sides so dont want to damage that Going to put the frame in first and let it dry for 7 days before i put the perspex in, going to make sure the bloody thing is sitting right this time before i put the perspex in I would like to thank you and the others for the help, i know ive been driving you all mad with this window But not as much as me haha So summary is 1 SIKA 11FC ,glue ali frame in and screw it to caravan making sure it seals the top joins 2 put tape on perspex before putting SUPER GLUE on both sides of perspex and let it dry before putting sealant on 3 put SIKA 291 on frame and put perspex in place 4 put SIKA 291 also on the outside of perspex and put bevel edge on it to make look good and help hold perspex in If any body can think of something ive missed please and it on Regards Peter

Just a suggestion with the protective paper & tape, just gently lift one side at a time & fold back, use a straight edge ( fold paper back over that)if you have one, as it makes it neater & faster to do. That way you can lay your tape neatly & still have protective on, if a large fold back then tape that down as well! Only the area to super glue will be exposed. When using your gloves to lay the sika 291 have a jar of water near so you dip a finger & use that to neatly slide a bevel, remember the lots of tissues/ extra golves, this is when you can make it look proffesional with a neat no lumps result. If required mask the whole rear area, practice movements before your hands are covered in sika & see where you lean & the other hand goes.. mask that area as well haha!

Sorry, my response could be alitle late (been taking the kids everywhere in my newly renovated caravan). Just sitting down this week before heading of again.
I think I did exactly what you are trying (gluing perspex in a frame). I used sikaflex pro to adhere a SINGLE side of the prespex (the outside not inside) into the frame before fitting it into the caravan. Strong, easy to do and completely water tight; BUT disadvantage was I needed to cut the window out of the frame when it smashed in the recent Brisbane hail storm. (Sikaflex pro is a very strong adhesive as well as water sealer).
Fully agree with lots of tissues when using any sealant; however I found a full box of nappy wipes worked much much better (the wipe doesn't disintegrate like a tissue.....)
