G'day retromama, and welcome to the forum! The chassis number of the Viscount Royal would most likely start with the number 5 rather than the letter S. Chassis number 5681A is from around 1971/72. Have a read through our Viscount history thread and you should see vans similar to yours. The Ambassador chassis number is from around 1969. You can click on this link and see the various chassis number sequences for Ambassador vans up to 1969, on the Vintage Caravans forum. cheers, Al.

Yeah, well, me too! I've spent far too many hours trawling through newspaper archives looking for information about caravans built before 1980. All the way back to the 1930s. I should get a life, hey... cheers, Al.

I love delving into our past too I guess it makes me a historical busybody lol but seriously I can see how much time and effort you put into it and it's invaluable information you share ! Everyone here would agree with me we would be lost without it So again thank you ! We are picking up our little van next week and I am so very excited we plan to travel around the country with the children for about 6 months and go on historical searches
