Hi all
I recently purchased a vintage caravan to renovate to use again to travel around Victoria. I have replaced the wheels and it has been rewired but I know very little about the chassis and brakes on caravans and according to the tyre company that changed the wheels the chassis was very soft underneath and the brakes are rusty and non existent. It would appear that the underside is very rusty and will need replacing completely. I don't mind doing this and can manage a reasonable level of DIY but I don't know where to start and need some direction! The van is a Travelhome Deluxe built around 1975 and I believe is about 15ft. Obviously I am mindful of keeping costs down if that's at all possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Paul

G'day Paul, Yes it was me who sent you over here from the Vintage forum. While we're waiting for someone to answer your questions, you might like to see the other Travelhome vans that are on this forum. All you have to do is search for them, by filling in the blanks and clicking a couple of things, as per these instructions. You'll get a list of the threads given to you from the search result... cheers, Al.

G'day again, Paul, There are a number of threads on the forum showing how people repaired their chassis. The vans may not be the same brand as yours, but the situation might be the same, and the methods are fairly universal no matter what brand of van. There's camich's thread: 1974 Viscount Royal R44140Then you've got bricktop's thread showing some chassis repairs: 1972 Viscount Royal 4170Emausie's Capricorn van also needed some chassis repairs: Capricorn caravan tedalley's thread is always a worthwhile read, to see some of the things you might encounter in your van: 1974 Franklin Regent - V2541Should be some eye-opening info in amongst that lot. cheers, Al.
