Hi, I'd like to learn a bit more about my caravan if anyone can help. I bought the caravan as 'maybe a 1981 Franklin' - which is what we put on the permit to get it home. I've finally gotten around to start doing it up and did a bit of research. Its similar to both these caravans ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/525 and ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2430/vic-york-17ft-caravan-sale , with the same logo (the logo on mine is illegible, but the shape and colour of the outline is recognisable, the writing in the middle may possibly be red or orange). The interior is also similar but has been renovated at least once (with some other bits added that don't match the original changes) - it has extra cupboards replacing most of the couches/bunks. The chassis number is Y1965, I think this means pre-1973 (the one from the first thread above)... anyone able to narrow it down?
At the moment I'm looking to find some laminated ply to match the interior and hopefully find a couple more drawer handles. I'm happy to post some pictures once I work that out. Any information on it would be great.

G'day littleh, and welcome to the forum! The challenge with York chassis numbers is to guess how many vans were made each year starting from early 1969, when the York brand first started. My best guess is that your chassis number of Y1965 is most likely from 1970. They were up to chassis number Y11650 in 1978, so that's an average of 1165 vans per year since the start. Production levels didn't operate that way exactly, but it's the best we can do under the circumstances. I don't think we'd be too far out by saying your van is a 1970 model. Finding laminated ply to match the interior will be a real challenge for you. Nothing like that is sold anymore. The best you can do is look at the Gunnersens plywood range for caravans and see if there's something that might suit. Cupboard handles are the same as used in Millard caravans from the same time period. In fact, a number of the parts used in Millards are also compatible with the York vans. There are internet suppliers for caravan parts, but the one I've used is CaravansPlus. You can see the Millard parts still available by clicking on this link: CaravansPlus Millard partscheers, Al.
