300KM is the distance between the inlaws place and home. Van has been there for a couple of months as I stay in it when there and working on the farm which I’ve been doing every other weekend recently.

Big weekend on the Van despite the rain, so all inside. Got almost everything done I wanted to, there’s about 6 or 7 small items that need to be attended to and the inside is complete. Finished off some painting, tidying up of electrics (as an Electrician I could live with the loose wires, etc dangling in the cupboards but can’t expect the new owner to). One more good day inside and I’ll be done. Cleaned everything out of it so it’s empty and the reality of selling it hit home a bit while doing this - now knowing we’ll not be spending another weekend out in it. 😩 So, onto some pics. First up cleaned the fridge up properly and painted the front panel to match the cupboard doors. ED1ADE92-9BCB-4BB8-9A03-DA51F1EF4396 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Then painted the ‘skirting boards’ all around - looks pretty good IMO and it tidys the flooring and makes it look complete. 9D38C61D-3AE8-4FE7-8C5D-9DE2162C716A by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr 8590D159-B96D-4059-BA52-96A738C108FD by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr A7BE2592-263B-461E-A5DD-778E7AC33B58 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr And just finished installing an Automatic Tranfer Switch (ATS). This unit is a cheap Chinese item, but on seeing one pulled apart on Bigclive.com YouTube channel (link to video of this here - youtu.be/babtv00R-Nc), found they are actually a half decent unit (I deal with bigger units at work every day so know these well) and it will make for a better experience for the new owner. If you plug the mains in, it will automatically transfer to that, but if the inverter is turned on and the mains disconnected, it will switch straight over to the inverter, without the 2 supplies ever being switched to each other. Cover will be remade to totally enclose it in the board to make it legal and safe. First up cleaned the fridge up properly and painted the front panel to match the cupboard doors. Is there an electrolux fridge on the road that doesn't have a bent nail or a golf tee as a lock?

The van is looking good I hope you get what you want for it. I think the new owner should be very pleased with it

I'd like to keep it, I've put so much work into it, but the new Viscount is waiting for a spot in the driveway and it needs to be moved soon from where it is, so the Franklin must go. Not even sure what I'll ask for it - I may start a bit high and cheeky and see what nibbles I get. I do have a figure in mind that would be the lowest I'll go and I think is achievable - classic vans seem to be fetching good money at the moment. Yes, the old bend nail - I'm sure I'm not the only one that has one keeping the door shut. Interestingly enough, the old van we moved off the inlaws property the other week still had the original catch intact and working - I bet they're getting a bit rare. The guy that took that away was very pleased and will be passing it onto his Son - I've asked they post the progress of the resto here, I hope they do when they get started on it.

Nice work snoops! I agree with the fridge panel, looks factory. I guess all this work will be the warm up for the upcoming build, look forward to when you get cracking on that

I'm itching to get going on it, but I need this one gone for both the room, and some of the bigger dollar items that I need for it (Toilet, Shower, Fridge, Solar, Batteries) Pretty much everything I get for the Franklin will be tipped into the Viscount, then some... I am doing a bit of work behind the scenes on it though, but don't tell the missus...

Well had a HUGE win today - found most of the build pics of the Franklin so I can go back through this thread and reinsert pics along the way. Will try and do a bit this arvo - I've been looking through them and am amazed at where it's come from looking back at the pics when I first picked it up. EDIT - Got the first 9 pages filled in again, but looks like a lot of the middle section may still go without pics as these were on my old now dead phone. Hopefully I saved them somewhere else - if they show up, I'll fill in a few more blanks.

Golf Tee it is, on my Franklin fridge👍 Myarrow1 Is it a period correct wooden tee, or a new-fangled plastic one?

Back at home after a week at Mums for Chrissy and straight back into it. I have a prospective buyer for the van if it is what they are after, etc so finishing it is a high priority now. Mostly outside stuff, so started at the front today. Removed the front windows and frame, Titied up the pannelling inside and painted the surrounds. 249932D7-DB7D-4E3C-B08E-D31E6D4A0665 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Prepped the whole front of the van, removed the Franklin badge and the reflectors ready for paint, painted around where the window is, PU'ed around the edges of the aliuminum plates a previous owner had put on it, cleaned up the frame and reinstalled it (havent sealed it yet, so it's got to come out again, but I ran out of time tonight and had to get it buttoned up. Seems I didn't order the upper flyscreens so I'll need to grab a couple fro Caravans Plus. Also note the new winder boxes. 24CFCE64-77FC-4F33-9E0D-0854418835AE by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Windows cleaned, new pivots installed and back in, although I haven't riveted them in so I can remove them again easily. I ell you what snoops, the new owner will be very lucky to have a caravan that has been worked on like you have. Most times one is buying a rotted out shell, but in this case its still being looked after. Much respect to you mate.
Cheers,

Thanks. I'm asking a decent price for it, so I'm sure they will expect a decent van for the money. They won't have much to do on it that's for sure if/when they pick it up. Tarted up the front badge last night while sitting around doing nothing (yes I'm a sad old fart that had no where to go for new years). It looks better despite there being quite a bit of corrosion on it. Another day, another bit done. Removed both passanger side windows, cleaned, renewed parts and flyscreens as nessesary (not all as some are fine) resealed and reinstalled them, with new exterior pivots - I'm doing all of these as they make the windows look heaps better than the old cracked and faded originals. So a first coat on the end bit by the door and the window refurb under way. 7D0BCC7B-501F-490D-A5D4-2935C31D1B16 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr The light needed a lick of paint too, so I thought I'd make a highlight if it. DE36C0E1-10E2-4E13-8514-0A7CBE7A3388 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr Front bit and door all finished, will strip the blue paint off the back bit tomorrow and continue. F4114BA8-7E08-46BE-B120-3F8EEB0BBDD1 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr I'm procrastinating about doing the back as the window is in terrible condition and will take a long time to sort. I figure I'll get everything else done then tackle it, I'm hoping to have the side finished tomorrow all going well, it's just paint prep and painting now.

And 24 hours later the side is complete apart from 2 lengths of pin striping - I've got another roll somewhere but you think I can find it.... Been very lucky with the weather - low to mid 20's every day this week, so absolutely blessed when I had that much painting to do. 👍 4 coats all up. 4D1DA053-DD36-4753-9775-C534E7098ACA by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr So tomorrow the back window... Can't put it off any longer... 😁 Once that's done, I'm almost finished!!! Just one or two small jobs to complete then a bit of a tidy up and it can find a new home. Hopefully the guy that wanted it still does, he's on holiday at the moment so he hasn't seen the videos I've shot nor any updates here. Fingers crossed... 🤞

Started on the dreaded rear window which had been silasticed shut. Got the bottom of the frame done and one top rail from one of the windows....
Going to be a hard slog...

The split side windows are a good idea, better flow & less projection to bump a head on when walking past. Are the wheel arch details a Viscount thing? That orange looks so much better than the sad blue!

Post by snoops on Jan 5, 2018 19:38:30 GMT 10
Yes, wheel arches are a Viscount repro from Caravans Plus. One of the original arches was damaged and I thought this was the easiest way if fixing them. 😊
Yes, I like the orange - the stripe was originally orange, then brown, then blue... This orange is a bit brighter but I like it. 👍
The windows are good, but I'll be taking a step back with the Viscount - manual one piece windows on that, but you win some, you lose some...

I would never change the 1 piece side windows & even bought them for my newbuild. I did get a long 2 piece rear tho as apart from habit it is very handy for my bed area & ventilation, especially in tricky windy wet weather. Something a weekender would not worry about but full time is essential,

Looks like the bunks are going back in. Final details to be discussed with the potential new owner but he has indicated that they are required and that he may not be the best on the tools. Depends on what it’s going to cost to fit them and Transport 2,500KM up the road. Maybe I haven’t finished inside yet... 😊
Hope to have all these details nailed down early next week.
I’m spending a day on the Viscount tomorrow so see what I get done there - planning on cleaning the inside and maybe give it a tub outside if I have time.
