Spend the day working on the Franklin preparing it for sale - finished painting inside and installed the last of the cupboard doors and the slide out bin. Attention then turned to the back window - something I've been dreading as a previous owner had sealed shut both rear windows with about a gallon of silastic. Took over 5 hours to get it our of the opening (easy bit) the get the panels out which usually just slide sideways after the stops are removed - these took 1/2 hour of tapping with a hammer to dislodge them, folllowed by hours of cleaning up the silicone. Still have a long way to go, but I had to put everything back in as I'm using the van this weekend at the inlaws. At least I know what I need to finish all the widows off now - parts orders from Canvans Plus - over $500 worth for all the bits, screens, etc I need to finish all windows and have them all 100%.
Pics to come, but one step closer. Prettty much done inside now which I pretty happy about. Just a few tweaks and I'll call it done so I can concentrate on the outside.

While it is my pride and joy and I put my heart and soul into it thinking I'd have it forever, I've got a 21' (I think) Viscount Duralvan waiting in the wings that is in very good condition and needs little doing to it. The biggest issue with the Franklin is the bed which is side on so I have to crawl into it from the end which I'm starting to find a bit difficult. The Viscount has a full length rear bunk section that will make life a lot easier - we may even keep the 2 single beds in there - time will tell. Having a larger sitting area will also be a bonus. The Franklin will make someone elses holidays a breeze I'm sure.

Will be sad to see it go. Iโve been following your progress for ages. Can understand the bed scenario. It is a pain. An 18ft Franklin with the bed going length ways would be awesome ๐๐๐

It's easy enough for me to get in/out of bed, as I've claimed the "near" side, but she needs to climb over me to get out of bed. It has been decreed that "Our next van will have an island bed, I'm getting too old for this rubbish"

We are going to try the 2 singles that are already in the Viscount and see how we go. We are at the age where sleep is the only thing that happens when we're camping so not a huge issue I don't think.

When I build my bed in the Viscount I looked at that option, however the wardrobe got in the way and we lost the potential space for the bathroom so ultimately it wasnt the best design to maximise space.

Fair enough - it's already like that in mine, so no issues. I wonder if it's a foot or so longer? They look similar in the pics. The Bathroom will go opposite the kitchen where a fold out double bed currently is, plenty of room there.

Got a bit of painting done last weekend - the whole drawbar (only had a bit of it done before) is painted and so is the chassis rails all the way back to the end of the van, wiring is tidied up and underneath is pretty much done and dusted. Also bought an automatic transfer switch for the wiring - this will hinge the supply between the mains and inverter without having to switch anything manually. Plug the mains in and turn it on, and your on mains, turn the inverter on, and pull the mains and the van is running off the inverter without the 2 supplies engaging at the same time. what a colour combination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you possibly "pull out" that ding at the top ? I know what a pain they are I had several, but the effort may be rewarded.

Can you possibly "pull out" that ding at the top ? The "ding" at the top is a common Frankiln problem, I have the mirror image (mine is the other side of the badge). There is no support behind the cladding and the wind pushes in until the cladding cracks.

There is no support behind the cladding and the wind pushes in until the cladding cracks. Mine was OK until some ratbag kids started kicking a soccer ball of my van at a cara park! 2 ding/ creases. So far with over 4000klm of mostly 100klmph - 110klmph towing it has not budged nor cracked. Mine has no cupboards or anything so can see the green ally & dings from the inside, to annoy me as well lolz!

Mine was already damaged, and actually has a split which you can see in the photo - I did repair this when I had the panelling off the inside and sealed the split with PU but the first time I towed I it caved back in. ๐
Will be installing a cupboard behind it so I can repair it then brace it to stop it happening again. ๐

At present it's covered with a patch of white 100mph tape, I'm contemplating rivetting a patch of similar cladding over the tear.

I have used the system of "insert screws pull out the majority of the ding & smooth over with a quality body filler"

I put supports in my Franklin on the inside frame, as mine had creases too. I did mine while I had it all apart fixing the rotted frame. I did have pics on here at the time, but now gone due to Photobucket

Doubt it will be too hard to make a cupboard inside - it will be above the toilet so Iโll make the dimensions suitable for a stack of dunny roll.
Might have a crack at it tomorrow - stay tuned. ๐

Thought about that, but the other side is where the shower is. I'm towing it 300KM first thing in the morning so I'll guess I'll know by about 9am tomorrow... ๐
