Ok, here's my end of the deal - first footage from the Hex. The camera is a Mobius and I have some work to do on the mounting and on the gimbal set up. The wobble is caused by the scan of the camera and the vibration of the drone - this can be tuned out and I have been working on this and it is getting better - I've shot some more video recently near home - maybe I'll post some later when I get something decent out of it. This is also the first video editing I've done - I spliced a few bits of 3 different runs together. These are taken at the inlaws farm - you can see where the van has been set up for about 2 months now, I bought it home just yesterday. It's a nice little camping spot. Mum and her new 'friend' camped with us over Chirstmas and loved it as well.
The height was 50 meters at the end of this when I'm panning around the skyline. Legal limit is 121 metres, so plenty of scope to go much higher as I get more confidence in it.
Oh, turn the volume down - it sounds like and angry wasp - I didn't have any music on my computer to dub over this sorry. Also, the camera gimbal kicks a couple of times - the wiring that runs from the camera to the FPV transmitter isn't how I want it and gets in the way at times causing this. I also need to dial in some more expo on the yaw, and the camera tilt, they are a bit quick and sudden for my liking. Easy to do with the FrSky Taranis Transmitter I'm using, just more fine tuning.

That was not to bad for being the first test. Once the shacking is gone it will be much better. I cannot believe how brown it is the country, I hope that you people do not have any grass fire during summer, the caravan will be ashes.

Firstly, great camp site! Love it. Secondly, thanks for posting this, pretty darn good for a first go and no "mayday, mayday" scenarios lol. For video editing, I use the freely available Windows Movie Maker (looks like you do too). For sound, turn off the video sound and download a FREE Youtube music file from their library. Some require copying and pasting the MPS credits, no biggie. But the range it great, easy to tap into this resource and just filter by music type etc.

Thanks for that - yes, just using Windows Movie Maker. I'm sure things will get better as I get the camera mount working better and get used to using the drone more. It was also quite windy when this video was taken, you can see some trees in the first part of the video moving quite a bit if you look hard, but the hex flies in this no dramas.
Gitano - the fire risk is quite low there at the moment - you can see the grass that has been mown and it isn't really growing at the moment. Where it isn't mown, the cattle are keeping it low - next door run sheep so it's almost like a golf fairway in there - only a few mm long. The only risk would be a strong northerly if there was a fire in the pine forest but the property is easy to protect. The van is now back home anyway. The FIL has a good supply of water, petrol powered pumps, generators and fire fighting equipment. He's had to protect the place from ember attack before without issue.

Finally got back to working on the van - I want to get the outside sealed properly and painted before I head to Corowa in it mid March. Pulled out, cleaned and reinstalled the kitchen window today - the last one I had to do on the RHS although rubbers and winders will need doing later on all of them. I painted around the frame before putting it back in. I've bought gloss white and a litre of vibrant Orange to do the stripes and wheels. Now for the questions - how has everyone applied their paint? I've got gloss acrylic Solargaurd and although the finish doesn't have to be perfect by any means, has anyone used a roller or brush to do this with decent results. Now Imhave everything I need to spray it, but it's always windy here, so spraying outside is not ideal. I tried several different rollers today but I'm not really happy with the finish. I also tried thinning the paint to several different consistencies but this didn't help. Coverage was acceptable after 2 coats, but I gave it a third anyway. Colour is fine and whatever I do will be better than it is now, but I woukd like to get it a bit better if possible. Any ideas or am I stuck waiting for a calm day to,break the spray guns out? Oh, and of course a pic of the window (big deal right?)

My problem is when I have time at the moment it is too hot or right temp and windy to spray as I have gone from what I was going to use which was solar-guard now I am going to to use auto paint easier to apply when I get the right day and wax about every six months should last a long time the was will help with the weathering especially the front also the front I will have to add a couple of of extra coats bugs can make a mess of paint.

I painted mine 4 coats with Solagard using a $45 paint brush and the result was very good. A top quality brush it is a must. The orange strips are done with ViPonds signwritters paint which it is very good for UV. They are in North Coburg 03 9350 4188

Continued with the paint prep last night - the biggest job is getting the ugly blue stripe off the side as its thick and cracked so I can't just blend it in. Out with the paint stripper which worked a treat, and uncovered some original and some older paint jobs. Just after starting - first coat got most of it off. After a bit more work, this is what is revealed. The brown paint is not original, it's covering a layer of orange, but the stripper won't touch the brown stuff for some reason. It's not an issue as although it was brushed on, it is thin and feathers easily into the other paint with a bit of sanding. Hopefully I'll have it prepped by the weekend and I can get this side painted. I'm wondering now if I should get a small can of yellow and go back to the original orange/yellow stripe combo. I was going to paint the rims orange too, so the yellow might just break it up a bit? Thoughts?

Take a photo use paint on your computer to paint it in and see if you like it easier than doing it and finding out you don't like it as it is you and your wife that has to live with it. I hope the prep goes well for you and your paint goes on with out a blemish.

Coming good Snoops, try thinners to remove the strip and then give one or two coats of white as a base. For the colors use the sing writers paint that I have suggested and when you order it make sure that you get the sing writers masking tape as well. It will make clean lines and a much easy job.

Not sure what's happened to some of my Pics - I think Photo fuckit has had a fit. Anyway, got a job done today I've been meaning to do for yonks. Put the second drain in the shower and plumbed them both together. I'll be needing the van for around 4 night during the Avalon Airshow - I'm working down there, and including travel, it woukd be a 15 hour day - 5 days straight - if I didn't stay on site. So need the shower working for that or I'll be rather smelly by the end and I'm sure my workmates won't like that. Anyone heading down there? Happy to catch up for a cuppa if you are - PM me and I'll zap you my number. I basically cruise around all day in a golf cart looking important...

I use that account several times a week and have done for years - I pay as well, it's not just the free one, so I'm a bit pissed about it. I've got photos linked from years ago that are still ok - and the earlier pics in my thread are all still ok and on the same account. I've got way too much on there now to change to another service unfortunately. Just checked and the pics that don't show aren't even there any more and I didn't delete them...

Hmmm, still having dramas with the exterior paint. As mentioned before, tried various rollers and not happy with the finish, today I lashed out in an expensive brush and tried that, but it looks like crap too. Tried warming the paint up and that made the paint thinner, but still looks no good on the van.
Guess I'm going to have to spray it unless anyone else has got any ideas? Is not looking for perfection but I don't want highly visible stipple marks either and I want at least it to be half glossy. The gloss of the paint isn't bad but doesn't look great with the finish that is being left.
Any ideas from those that have done this? Although I have all the gear to spray it, I was hoping to avoid this as it will make a mess and I can't get the van into my garage to give me the control I would like doing this (from wind, overspray, etc)
Cheers.

I am happy with the finish in my Franklin using the brush on Solagard but then again it is all about your expectations. Having said that I painted my van when the temperature was well bellow 25. As soon as the surface become warm I stopped. Good luck on that inland in Victoria.

It hasn't been hot here at all - I'm only half hour north of Melbourne. Was around 22 yesterday when I tried it. Apart from today there's nothing above 30 in the outlook. On Sunday it was only 10, so had the other extreme then!
