Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted, this past year I have mainly been concentrating on my 1950's Vintage Van, since the previous restoration of the 1971 Travel Home de Luxe. This week I take ownership of a beautiful little 1978 Capricorn Food Van measuring 16ft I am so excited! I have always wanted to own a cafe' but this is the next best thing and combines my love of caravans. I live on a busy country road in a small town with no shops but many trucks come past during the week and tourists on the weekends to the 3 art galleries here. So I plan to cater for the need for refreshments. To fund this venture I have had to part with my beloved 1963 EJ Holden, but hopefully one day down the track I will find another sweet oldie. I am buying a UHF CB Radio next week and then the truckers can contact me ahead of their arrival so I can have a coffee ready for them. And caravan owners if they have UHF. Here are the all important pictures!

Update: I ended up passing on this one, the floor was soft and she has some water leaks upon closer inspection and just wasn't what I wanted in the end. I now have a late 70's Empire Pop top that I am transforming instead. Its a bit of a pipe dream, I'm not in a hurry and only work on it when I have the funds. But I just have this dream of running a cute little coffee van...one day

Trish, I would think you've become quite an expert with assessing these old vans, after the number of vans you've been involved with. It's good to get to the stage where your knowledge can sort out the wheat from the chaff pretty quickly. That saves you wasting dollars on vans, when you can go find something a lot better, hey?!. cheers, Al.

Yes Al, checking for leaks...usual spots, chassis rust, inside cupboards that may hide water leaks, soft floors etc. Lately I have helped a few to get their dream vans too, that feels really good, a few have been inspired by the lure of a cheap holiday alternative and realised that if I can tow, the so can they! Just a few weeks ago I helped my 84 year old grandma get a lovely 1970's capricorn, 18 ft with her favourite feature..... a FRONT kitchen, she thinks she is the bees knees and loves to hunt down things at the op shops for her caravan. She cant tow but I have promised to tow for her. Payback for all those yummy home cooked treats that she has always provided me!
