G'day all, Now that I have completely striped down the Tow Coupling for the Thomson c/van, then cleaned and repainted all the bits and pieces, ( all 56 separate pieces ) I am looking for a replacement Hydraulic Damper which fits between the Coupling head and the over-ride brake arm. The Damper measures 300mm from center hole to center hole and is 330mm overall, It was made originally by AL-KO kober in england and fitted on the BETA overrun couplings as fitted to the B&B Trailers. these Dampers are available on E Bay in England, but the cost and loss on exchange currency make them a very expensive item to purchase from there. I have contacted AL-KO Aust with=out any luck, they said they had them many years ago but no more, Can any-one help, I believe some early brands of Aussie built caravans were fitted with this type of Damper, Any Help-------Clues-------information---------Donations gratefully received. kikwijim

Jim
By co-incidence I have just had to replace the damper on my Safari.
As I pulled the caravan out from its winter resting place, I touched the brakes and bang, the caravan seemed to be trying to get into the boot of my car.
Fortunately I had a spare hitch in my stock of spares and the damper was in good condition.
The hitch is quite common on classic UK caravans so I'll keep my eye open for another. If you send me details of the ebay seller I'll see if I can do anything on the postage costs.

G'day Brian,
I would be very interested if you do come across any extra Dampers in the future.
I did purchase the damper which was advertised on UK E-BAY..... The biggest mistake I have ever made, I will never buy anything off E-Bay again, unless I am able to see it in my hands before I pay for it.
You can read all about the rip-off I had in the tread I posted here, with the heading "BUYER BEWARE".
It was interesting to note that the Company I bought the Damper off contacted me well after the purchase to inquire why I hadn't posted any positive comments on E-Bay regarding their service,
when I informed them that they should change their advert to state that the Damper was nothing like the Origianal...they did place a note on the advert stating that.......
They had been informed that the Dampers on sale were not exactly the same as original and that it was an "after market"substitute item from ALCO, purchased some years ago.
their advert disappeared off E-bay a short time later.
Cheers kiwijim
