Hi All! Just wondering if anyone travels with kids or babies? I have an 8 year old and an 11 month old. My 8 year old takes one of the single beds, no problem but as my bub sleeps in a cot at home, I needed to have a similar safe setup for him in our Franklin 1976 Poptop. So I found a old style wooden folding cot at the local tip recycle centre for $5, cut the legs down, discarded the base and attached it to the base of the other single bed. When not in use, I can fold it in towards the wall. I have a thick piece of foam that I will cover for the mattress, that will also double for a seat. I will post pix as soon as it stops raining.... Has anyone else made something similar for their kids? Or any other comfort ideas for travelling with rugrats?

Nice work there! I did something similar when my daughter was young. Except I cut down a folding playpen and strapped it (using velcro) on top of the dinette (when the table was down). It worked well except that she could reach the curtains (she pulled them down once or twice!)

we had a similar situation, when ours were young. Our 78 Franklin hunter had only four berths, so we had the dining end bed, the two older boys shared the click clac bed at the end and the youngest had a cut down playpen (the size of his cot mattress) in the centre of the van. Sound squished, but all had a bed and we only had to fold up the cot. To eat, two kids on one side of the table and dad and bub on the other. At the end of the table fitted a plastic garden chair, so all had a seat. In the evenings, dad and three kids fitted on the clic clac as a couch and I again had the plastic chair. Only a few years and the older two were old enough to be big boys in the annex. What great memories we all had. Now they have grown up, the "boys" go and stay in the same caravan park or visit us oldies there!!! cheers, Heather

Funny you say that because I am a former daycarer...and the thought had crossed my mind to put hubby in the pen. Would be a squeeze for him but oh so roomy for me on my double bed! Sounds lovely! :-)

So many lol's! My husband would not be a fan of the pen idea, tempting as it is. We have just bought a four birth pop top, with bunks. And although that will be wonderful when the girls are older, at the moment they are 3 and 10 months, so not so good for right now. I don't really have enough room for a porta cot on the floor, so any ideas would be great. Thanks.

I have put the baby in a bassinet on the floor between two single beds or in my current van I was able to change the orientation of the double bed and had enough room for a portacot squished between the bed and the wall. For you I am wondering if the Phil and Ted portacot might work. It is narrower than our standard portacot and is incredibly light. It could easily be picked up and placed out of the way when not in use or could even be used on the double bed during the day. There are a couple on Ebay at the moment but the legs on them stick out more than I remember so they look different to the stock photos. I think perhaps they haven't put them up properly.

We're co-sleepers so bub is in the queen between me and hubby, makes it easy to breastfeed while continuing to snooze Our toddler often sleeps with us in the queen too, but I'm hoping that she will take to the bottom bunk (eldest is on the top) for our summer holiday - it will be a bit hot otherwise!

Been away, had a loverly time so I am a bit behind with all the news/goss, etc Spotted this, I have grand kids and suspect the youngest might be going away with us on the occasion. I have started to put some thought into how to safely accommodate a 12month old in a caravan built for 2. No not in my bed. Checking out another website I discovered a thing called ‘Portable Pop-Up Travel Cots’. Take a look at this site and you will learn a bit more about it. highwaydreams.net/product-reviews/camping-gear/pop-up-travel-cots/ bobt
