When I was looking to paint the outside of my Viscount I briefly flirted with the idea of using a hammered metallic paint finish to give it a retro aluminium look, but got a bit scared as I hadn't actually seen a van with such a finish. Anyway now I have. I was driving along Burwood Highway, Wantirna, just near the Eastlink connection and there was a nice looking van parked by the side of the side of the road with a "for sale" sign. At first glance I thought it was a van from the '60's but on closer inspection the paint finish revealed it to be much more recent. At a guess I would say it could be a '70's Franklin, with a silver hammered metallic paint finish, which I reckon looks pretty good. Here is a link to a hammered paint finish company, but it is really hard to tell how good it actually looks: www.whiteknightpaints.com.au/specialty-paints/metal/rust-guard/topcoat/hammered-finish/I didn't take a photo of the finish, but I later found the van on Gumtree (it is not mine) - www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/wantirna-south/caravan/13-foot-caravan-/1022647476What do you reckon? G'day Remaim, personally wouldn't recommend using Hammerfinish on a van or car - as the dimpled surface texture collects dust and dirt, you'd be washing it pretty often ! ). Fine for a box trailer ( which commonly get the hammertone paint from factory, and usually nobody cares if they look a little dirty). Wattyl paints also made hammerfinish paint until about 2years ago, and you can probably still buy it in aerosol cans at mitre10 ( Bunnings no longer stock Wattyl products due to politics of ownership! ) or local Wattyl shop or smaller hardwares stores. I was actually the guy who made every batch of Wattyl hammerfinish paint at the Sydney factory until it was discontinued !! I've painted lots of things with the stuff, including about 4 box trailers.....but afaic not really suited to caravans. Just my 2cents worth ! cheers -- Steve.

Thanks Bambang, I am glad now that I went with gloss white finish after seeing your post!
