I did it, I bought a van I'm excited and scared all at once. It's a 77 model sold on March 23rd 1978....and I bought it exactly 35 years later...was meant to be How do I know this, I hear you ask? The warranty certificate was in the van, along with the original user manual for the fridge. Now its not perfect, needs painting, has old water damage which from what I can see has been fixed, just not internal stuff. I hate the curtains but have already pulled out the old ones to measure up for new ones, and found some really nice material that I might re-cover the seats in, not that they really need it. The side panel of the wardrobe needs replacing (its missing) and a shelf needs fixing. There are 3 broken windows, but fortunately for me, my boarder can cut glass The gas bottle needs replacing as its out of date, appears to be the original and only has a single regulator on it. But all in all, I'm happy with it and think i can fix everything that appears to need repair. Here are the pics.....

G'day Donna, Congratulations on your new purchase! I tried to modify your picture links so they'd actually show on the forum, but Photobucket wouldn't let me do it. Seems like the interior furnishings are very much like the late 1970s...lots of orange colours in the upholstery. Sounds like you are going to be a busy girl for a few months, but she'll be a beauty once she's done. ;D cheers, Al.

G'day again, Donna... I meant to also say in my post above how great it was that you got some paperwork with the van to verify its age! It's not often we get that sort of confirmation, so it will be a big help in increasing our knowledge of the York brand. cheers, Al.

Hello, just thought I'd chuck a quick update in on "Hervey".
All the broken windows have been replaced - $20 - luckily for me I picked up a couple of old sliding windows from the dump and my boarder is a picture framer and can cut glass.
I've made new curtains - because retro or not - I don't like the orange and brown ones. $30 on sale at spotlight
I've replace the syphon pump tap with an in line pump operated by a toggle switch. $76 from caravan plus and supercheap
Replaced and relocated the 1970's cassette player with an new usb stereo. $30 sellout demo model
Replaced the seat tops with 12mm mdf instead of the 3mm veneer. $0 already had everything
Replaced the non compliant gas regulator with a new new one. $97 caravan plus
Installed the 130Amh battery and wired everything into it including anderson plug. battery $100 other stuff $0 had everything
Installed fire extinguisher $17 supercheap
Replaced the coupling and manual brake override as the existing seemed dodgy $82 bawa trailers
Next - renovate the wardrobe to be part wardrobe, part pantry and part shelving.
Then to get an RCD istalled, which I have organised with a sparky friend - cost $0 (he owes me a favour, I help them move a few weeks ago and it was a deal we struck =)
then it will be ready for rego =) ----but want to paint it to - will see what I can work out with my neighbour for that one =)

Hi, We literally just bought the exact same van!!! I will have to post pics!! It's also got the original paint and I'm wondering if you painted this yourself? Was it hand painted or sprayed and if so how do I go about doing this? Kristy

Hey Kristy, congratulations on your purchase I, as me myself and boarder, did paint it. And this is the one area that I would probably say that I did wrong. We used British Paints 4 seasons external gloss house paint and rollers. And that is where we went wrong, don't use ROLLERS!!! If I was to do it again, I would hire an air gun. I have a compressor, but not an air gun. The other thing that i did wrong was use a roller with a longer nap (15mm) on the roof. I went this way due to the contoured cladding, however, it gave a very textured finish, which I didn't like. So on the walls, we used a 10mm nap roller. You'll also need trestles and planks, and not standing on the very top of propped ladders like we did. Good luck

Just a note: If you decide to put in a slide out bbq - make sure that you buy runners that have NO plastic in them.... The sides of bbq's get hot also - got new runners now
