G'day lovely people Can anyone tell me where I can find out what the gas and electrical requirements are for caravans in glorious Queensland? I've been told several different things and don't know which one is correct and want to get it right before I get certificates for registering it. One person told me that I don't have to do anything because the van is built prior to the current requirements, however, someone else said i do, because I am re-registering it..... Cheers Donna

Gidday Donna, To reregister it you will need a gas certificate. Also the electricals will need an RCD as well. If the van was already registered you still need the gas certificate to transfer it into your name. The electrical side would just be up to you. You see the trick is that when you fill in the rego application you sign saying that the van complies to current regs. Painful, but thats just the way it goes.

Thanks so much for the info banno. I know that I need the certificates - safety cert, gas cert and weigh bridge docket What I'm chasing is info on what I need to do to bring the van up to the current requirements. The van is a 77 model York and was last registered in NSW in 2004. It still has the original gas bottle on it - stamped 1977

Hello Donna, Because a van is classified as 'temporary mobile', there is no requirement for smoke alarms -- just recommendations. Cooking inside a van will set off smoke alarms.
