Gday All Some advise required with pitting on unpainted areas of aluminum such as the external side of window frames on the 79 ambassador.... how do I treat it and or just paint over it?
Also I have a gap between the floor and walls on both left and right sides under the front seats of about 5 to 7mm about 1/2 m long. Is there a product that will seal it on a budget?
Cheers Bazz

Hey Bazz, my thoughts on your questions are: Pitting on the external surfaces of the windows can be cleaned back to an acceptable appearance by rubbing them with soapy steel wool. You'll never get rid of the corrosion pits completely, however the frame will look a lot brighter than it did before. I would argue against painting them because you are just creating another headache that you (or someone else) will have to deal with in future years...repainting, stripping the paint back off, etc. For the gap in the floor, I'd be inclined to go for something cheap and easy and use one of the gap fillers (eg. No More Gaps). A gap of 5 to 7mm is getting towards the widest that these fillers are recommended for, however they'll still span that width and give you a repair that will be good for a few years. (...and is easy to re-do when the time comes again later ). Both the soapy steel wool pads and a gap filler cartridge are only a couple of dollars each. cheers, Al.
