G'day all, I must be lucky - 3 of the 4 vents work ok the one in question has the spiral pushy/out thingy has been stretched so to close it needs to be folded. question is can it be repaired or can I buy that part or do I have to buy a replacement 'n from where, also can you still buy a water filler plastic surround, thanks, norm

Norm, check with your nearest caravan repairer for a second-hand hatch controller. They would usually have boxes of old spares lying around out the back. For any other parts for your van, check out the CaravansPlus website. Here is the link to the "water inlets" list of items: Water inletscheers, Al.

You can now. It was in the General Board section, but I've just moved it over.

Another day of rain/storms around Sydney & another 40mm in 70 minutes where i am camped! Again my Four Srasons hatch was open ( 1/4) and no issues. The main issue with 1/2 open& about 2 teaspoons of water comming in are swirling winds & hail-heavy rain bouncing up at angles to splash up & onto the flyscreen. Today just a few drops on the screen but no ingress. I have a big old draw to catch any stray water when i am away & leave the vent open and so far very impressed with the fresh air ventillation V staying dry equation during these monsson crazy times!

After a great run during some record breaking rain my 4 seasons has started leaking from the centre of a hinge (ffs) i drop every 3-5 minutes during 5-10mm rain per hour, any hints on what to look for if/ when the rain stops & i can have a look please?

G'day atefooterz,
Always difficult to track down the exact source of a leak. If your hatch was working well back in Dec, but has now sprung a leak, it would suggest to me that something has changed since Dec. Check for any recent damage to the hatch in the area that the leak is coming from. Also check the alignment of the flap relative to the corners at each end. I open only the one flap on each of my two hatches, and one of the flaps has a tendency to shift a few millimetres out of centre, and won't close properly back to the lock position. I have to get the ladder and tap the flap gently to get it back to centre again.
Not much else I can think of to help you out. Seems a bit odd to get a leak on the top of the flap where the hinge is, based on what I know of the design of these things.
cheers, Al.

Thanks Al, remember i live in my van 24/7 so it was working fine during the extra heavy Easter rains, last weeks major downpours then just started this drip on Saturday. It has been parked in the same spot so i cannot even blame a short hop between caravan parks.. most odd. Normally all 4 flaps are open for max ventillation. Hopefully i can check out the allignment tomorrow, secretly hoping a leaf or something silly is there!

OK so got up there this aro, all flaps alighned & sit in required posititions. There was a 10c piece size hard gritty bird poo on the top rear flap, pretty much where the drip was comming in (overlapping the hinge a bit) it did not seem much buti cleaned it ,so waiting for the next big downpour to see what is what.

These insane rains & needed ventillation has more than justified one of theses over a hat lid hatch, if you are living inside, if the caravan is just for occasional outings then steaming it up with condensation to dry out in the shead later may work but....

I have a silly question...... How is the leaky hinge attached to the hatch? I'd try removing (rivets or screws) then sikka the holes + thin film between hinge & top. Then re-rivet it ... I actually did it to all hinges, screws, rivets & joints on my van.

Hiya Ted, the hinge is hidden under the top area lip, as this leak is so minimal i am not game to pull anything apart at this stage. During the last 2 days of medium to heavy rain it leaked about 200mm max, about 1 drip that came down from to top ,along the flyscreen then slowly formed a drip on the hatch controller knob then fell onto the floor ( plastic container) every 2-3 minutes. I am wondering about maybe smearing in vaseline long that area so the surface tention of the water might bead and not want to get sucked into the hatch.

atefooterz, you might get away with installing a strip of polyethylene flashing by tucking it up under the top area lip and pushing it a couple of inches into the hatch , and then taping the remainder to the outside top of the flap. Something like that would stop the water from getting into the van, and would redirect the water to the outside of the flap.
Even a piece of plastic (eg. builders plastic sheeting) would do the same.
It would be a temporary fix until you figure out what's really causing the problem.
cheers, Al.

Thanks Al, i will see what happens next rain before any action, i have some of that plastic shim but as more water goes on the floor from my shoes each time i come back in after wandering around the puddles any ugly or complex fix seems unwarranted at this stage. If it becomes a real time & or instant flow, then i have an excuse for playtime.

I have a Franklin Hunter done all the resealing repaired the 4 seasons hatch and no leaks till a major bucketing of rain leaking from the corner of the hatch at the top of the plastic corner only a slight drip.
sea;ed it up with Dicor lap sealant before the leak
back home investigating decided it was from the top plate/aluminum roof of the hatch. tried to remove it forced out the plastic moulding which has gotten rock hard, the aluminum sandwich roof panel has delaminated and still holding water in the cardboard sandwich material. my resealing had a slight split due to the hugh gaps involved which caused the leaking having decided to use a white polycarbonate for the top so its a skylight I need to replace the plastic "T" moulding but have been unable to find any yet. any ideas where I can get the "T" moulding otherwise ill have to replace the hatch with a new plastic one, I prefer not to.

Come up with a solution get some polycarbonate cut a and routed to shape and screw it in where the Mouldings go now to cost it.

An update on my issue noted above. After removing that leaf and got up there to remove fine grit etc (June 2015), i have not had any issues. Thursday night we had 105mm of rain over 9 hours! Hatch had all vents just open a tad with no water ingress. Any light to fine rain i can have flaps almost fully open, depending on angle from wind and splash height of drops, if big rain not the annoying drizzle variety.
