Hi All,
Has anyone replaced the material creating the POP TOP? I have just removed mine as it was starting to look tired and needed all new insect screens anyway. Once i removed the old materal the top would actually pop a lot higher. Is there a particular reason that it was only a 400mm section or would i be able to make it 500mm to give the interior a larger feel? I did notice that the higher it was the harder it was to close. Look forward to any advice.

G'day freeb,
I had a quote for my Millard poptop a couple of years ago. $820 to renew the "skirt". These days they do them in vinyl, but if you're determined to have canvas, a good canvasmaker can make them for you.
Shop around and get some quotes though. I've heard of people getting them done for considerably less than the quote I was given. I ended up making mine out of canvas and using a heavy-duty Singer sewing machine (and a lot of cursing and swearing). Took me 16 days to do the job, but it ended up costing me only $150 in materials.
cheers, Al.

Hey Al, I actually dropped in to see a mate of mine that is an uphlsterer and he said that it would be a relitively easy job. we took the old skirt off in a matter of minutes and then he started to measure it up. He is doing it in heavy duty rip stop vinyl. The hard part that i can see will be putting it all back on at the end of the week!!! Cheers Freeb

G'day freeb, Pretty handy having a mate who is an upholsterer! There's no reason why you couldn't have the skirt higher than the original height. Just remember you have to put those elastic deflectors in the pockets on the inside of the vinyl wall, to make the vinyl fold inwards when you lower the roof. The higher you make the skirt, the more important these elastic deflectors will be. You might want to check that you could make longer ones for a higher skirt before you make a start on the vinyl. I bought some multi-stranded rubber cord from Bunnings to remake mine because the originals were all perished. I kept the skirt height the same as original, so I was able to use the same plastic backing for the rubber cord. Click on this link and scroll down the page to Repy #311 and you'll see the story relating to my poptop skirt. cheers, Al.
