Valiant Alumvan chassis number C221 Hi, new to all this, just purchased this and would like to find out more about it. will try to post pictures soon. was told it was 1969 but limited research so far suggests they finished prior to that.

G'day itulip, and welcome to the forum! ;D I've got chassis number C611 in my collection of photographs, and it's got the 1966 painted stripes design on the side, so I guess your number of C221 would be from the same time period. A photo showing the side striping would help to confirm that. cheers, Al.

G'day itulip, I've seen the wide painted band along the windows on other Valiants from around 1964/65, but I've never seen one with that extra band of paint down behind the wheels. I haven't collected enough examples of Valiants from the early 1960s to know whether the paintwork on your van is original or not. I guess at this stage you could say it was a 1965 model, and you'd be pretty safe from anyone challenging you. cheers, Al.

Have done a bit of scraping, i believe the band along the windows was originally green, The white band is in the same condition as the green, possibly original, and the paint behind the wheels has the same layers of paint that are over the original green, minus the green. so i think the bit behind the wheels is not original.

Wow, itulip...I hope that doesn't mean the van survived a flood!! Good to know you've found some confirmation. cheers, Al.

G'day, My friend has one continually registered since 1965 with chassis no. C419 to verify year model, it's possibly for sale - what would it be worth? outside is original & in reasonable condition, inside is very ordinary with peeling paint & lifting vaneer on cupboards, some cracked windows also sagging ceiling due to a previous roof leak. any advice would be appreciated, thanks, dingo

The condition sounds about the same as mine when i purchaced it. i got mine for $600 unregistered and i think it was a good deal. I guess its worth what you can get, its almost vintage. its one of those things, some people would see it as a rare collectors item and others will see it as old junk. Trust me being registered is worth a lot, its costing me a fortune to get it roadworthy. electrical and gas compliance are the worst. but i'me having a ball renovating it.
