A timely warning and reminder for all I think, Al, I can't understand anyone having a Portable gas fridge running inside a caravan, I guess there are still some people getting around who don't know the danger of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. I think the first thing for EVERYONE to inspect, is the venting system in their vans, There must be absolutely no way that burnt gas from your fridge can enter the caravan, all flues must be vented or piped to the exterior, Vents at the base of doors are there for this reason as leaking gas will go to ground level or the lowest point, these vents should NEVER be covered. Also, NEVER use the gas burners on your cook-top as a heater in cool weather, doing this will build up Carbon Monoxide inside the van, as well as being odorless it's also deadly .....as those poor B#%%@*s down in Tassie would have realized IF they had survived. kiwijim

Hi KIWIJIM these chaps were camping in the same area as we do , central highlands, after chatting to some friends who live in that area apparently if was a three way portable fridge placed in the van despite the very large warnings on the appliance stating " do not use in a enclosed area". I then went and talked to gas plumbers where i work to find out a bit more about lpg ect. CARBON MONOXIDE poisoning can be very deceptive if you do survive a bad dose be very aware that even after removing the person/s from the area the gas has already damaged the red blood cells and medical assistance will be required a.s.a.p. In the USA the procedure is a blood transfusion im told to replace the damaged red blood cells. As the lpg burns at approx 30:1 it uses up the oxygen in the atmosphere fairly quickly remembering that the flame used in a normal van fridg is about the same size as used in a bunsen burner . Ventilation is the key. i can only wish the families the best and if we can all learn from it maybe it wont be a total loss of good people cheers oggyfj
