Hi all, I started another thread in this section before seeing this one. as per the other thread, The wife, Rose and I have just taken ownership of a Cabana, not sure of the model or year but we'll know more after the week-end, when we go to pick it up. Once we get it home and go over it, I'll be able to get a better idea of what's got to be done to it. I can't wait to get it to a condition where we can use it.

Hi, we've just bought a 1972 Franklin Regent 14'6" (thought it was 12'6" until I measured it) 'Egg', chassis number 7831-2. It's in pretty reasonable condition with minimal water damage, which is a bonus. I've already replaced the rear window glass, (the previous owner had loaned it to his Grand-kids and they weren't all that gentle), and re-sealed one of the fronts. At this stage the plan is to reseal the leaky bits, repair the bad stuff, replace the missing bits, re-paint the interior and put it back on the road. Eventually I'll post a photo or two.

Welcome to all our new members, please have a look around the forum, if you have issues with loading photo's go to ditzygypsy.proboards.com/post/29683/threadSome of the things you will notice is in our Hall Of Fame (HOF) you can start a topic on your Classic Caravan and what most members do is use the Make/Model/Serial No/Date as the thread header and this lets other members with the same or similar vans find them. Not sure of something or need some help, give us a shout Cheers and thanks for joining

Hi All
I've had a franklin 16ft pop top for a few years. A while ago I'd lent it to a friend for a prolonged period of time, to have a relative live in. Unfortunately I forgot to pay the rego while it was away and now have an unregistered caravan.
Looking to renovate it and get it back on the road I came across this awesome forum. I'll be starting a renovation log, but just wanted to pop by and introduce myself before.
cheers Damo

G'day everyone,
We've not long taken possession of a 1979 Viscount Explorer 16' Pop Top that we're planning to take up to the red centre in October. I've been lurking here for a while picking up heaps of great ideas and how-to info for the repairs and refinements that the van has needed. Getting to the point when I need to ask a few more specific questions for the next set of repairs and upgrades.
Our first weekend a way was a roaring success, despite the freezing overnight temperatures, and the kids are already lobbying for more time in the van, so it looks like it'll be a winner in our household.
Cheers
Dave

G'day Dave, A big welcome from me as well,
I have a bit of advice for you, regarding your future trip up into the Red Centre, Some of the Country up that way can be pretty rough going on a caravan,
If your van has a straight axle, have you thought of reversing the axle, that is fit the axle under the springs, this will give you extra ground clearance increasing it by the thickness of the axle, just might save you Bottoming-out on deep gravel and corrugated roads.
Any other advice you need, just ask, there's bound to be someone here that can help,
Happy travels. K.J.

Hi all, Born at the end of the baby boomer period. In 1976, as a family we lived in a new 24' Millard caravan in a caravan park on the Barwon River in Geelong for a year. I recall it having a brown stripe, double bunks at the tail end, double bed at the front, centre kitchen and dining. All brown wood veneer and the then trendy orange laminex benchtops and table, with curtins to match. We also had a green striped full canvas annex. Unfortunately, it was written off in the 1978 Geelong floods. A couple of years ago I bought a 16' Millard for a weeks wage and it now sits on my block in the Victorian goldfields. I'll post some pics.. ** Tried to upload a pic.... Unable to upload file 2015-06-08 12.25.57.jpg. Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded. Edit: Forgot I owned and lived in a '70's Viscount Supreme 27' for a couple of years in Darwin circa '92/'93

Hello all, Have recently purchased a 1982 Grand Tourer pop top, absolutely love it already. Bit of a sleeper with a tired exterior and a fairly immaculate interior. This forum has been a great help during the research/decision making phase of obtaining this van. We are a young family with three kids aged under nine. We have already completed some lengthy trips in an '84 model camper van , the last of which was a four month trip to Tasmania via Victoria. The plan for the tourer is a 12 month lap around the country. Look forward to finding plenty more handy info in regards to re-spraying the vans exterior/chassis etc! Cheers, Jed.

G`Day jed, make sure you make a thread in the hall of fame area to show us how your re spray goes. Mustang has created a great thread for those touring around, so you are most welcome to share any adventures there: When posting just hit the reply button, unless you wish to respond to a previous post direct then use the quote one. Make sure the cursor goes well below the text in the quote area ( some browsers/ devices this is easier to see or happens automatically)

Hi all,
My partner and I are shopping for a small resto project and looking at a York 11-12 ft to tow behind our 2012 Hyundai SantaFe. We are both have mechanical/practical experience with home renos/DIY and wanting to tour with a caravan, so putting these things together we have decided a small caravan project would be ideal.
We are really confident that we can to any internal refit ourselves, from stripping back to frame (if necessary) to upholstery and fittings. We are still learning about what to look for in regards to the structural integrery of an old van.
So, look out for lots of questions and we plan to post our project in words and pictures as soon as we pick up a caravan.
Regard and Happy New Year to you all.

Hi Victraveller, Sounds like you both know what you want, so you are half way there. Unlike house renos you need to allow DOUBLE the time performing a van reno. ie, a place to work under cover is preferable, a 240 reno tool is a must, lots of brains here, have a look at "Hall of Fame". There you can post pics & ask questions.

We are avid researchers and very fussy with detail so I'm tipping it'll take more than double LOL
