G'day Stephen&Julie, I read the replies you received on the Vintage forum about NOT plugging the iron in. Personally, I think a few seconds before midnight on New Year's Eve you should actually plug the iron in. It will certainly add to the fireworks around the place! ;D ;D Nice pick-up! cheers, Al.

That's so cool. I've never seen anything like it. The end that plugs into the power suply looks like it goes into a light socket Cheers Donna

G'day, New on this site. very interesting information.
This old iron looks like what my mum used to use.
It plugs into an electric light socket and most likely ran on 32 volts.
The 32v generating plant had to be running when it was being used.
Robert Gpoing to go there and going to do that.

Remember the "Gilford" brand of electric jugs in the 1970s? The jugs that looked something like this GAF version?... Well, speaking of "tiny electric irons", on the weekend we had a squiz around an Op Shop and I found a Gilford travel iron which appears to have never been used, and is in its original vinyl case... The handle folds down to one side for storage in the case... ...and is turned to the upright position and locked in position before pushing the jug plug into the socket on the side... Cost me 5 bucks! ;D I guess nobody wants to iron their clothes while on holiday, so no wonder it had never been used. But, for me, a very good collectable from the '70s. cheers, Al.
