Back in 2007 I ended up with a Hyundai Terracan 3.0L T'Diesel to replace the Commodore Wagon which was the previous tug. After being seriously horrified at the tacky interior and the near terminal body roll thru corners the TerribleCan turned out to be a good thing once you dropped our '76 Viscount onto the towball. The ride and handling improved dramatically, the tow power was impressive and the fuel economy stunning. We once averaged 14.8L/100km for a 2500k round trip to QLD with all 6 Griswalds on board towing the fully loaded Viscount. For normal around town driving about 10L/100km was average. It's 4WD ability was also quite respectable and we had a lot of fun with it. After 3 years and 90,000km I was actually sad to see it go. I am now a diesel convert (yes, I know the old-school petrol heads are turning in their graves....). You can't beat it for a good balance between power & economy. The biggest shame is that they don't make them anymore. A Hyundai dealer told me recently their second-hand value is actually going up as more and more people try to get hold of one as a tow tug !
