Hey Bob Nice looking set up there. On a slightly smaller scale I made this one from a 9kg gas bottle. And a colander that I eeerrrrr borrowed from the kitchen. A few heat beads and your away and cooking Used it a few times since making it. Took it with us up to Tinaroo last weekend and used it as a fireplace. Sat around it for hours just pondering life...... It was bliss.., ;D ;D ;D Have plans to try out a few modifications that will make it a bit like a Cobb. Have to say if anyone wants to make one of these, BE VERY CAREFUL You need to remove all the gas the gas valve and fill the cylinder with water before cutting it. Keep the water in the cylinder while cutting. AN EXPLOSION IN THE BACKYARD can ruin your entire day. Cheers Atog

G'day Atog, Good advice there re filling the cylinder with water. Amazing how such a small heat source can cook a meal I've seen quite a few different versions of your setup and as you said makes for a nice camp fire/heater ;D ;D ;D Here's another couple of shots from Canungra a couple of years back. Have to say there's nothing better than a roast in a camp oven ;D ;D ;D Cheers Bob and Jacqui

Well, it's freezing cold with squally winds down here at the moment, so if you blokes could just whip up a meal of snags and airfreight them down pronto, I'd be ever grateful!! ;D ;D
Pretty snazzy cookers!
cheers, Al.

No worries Al Would I use an airfreight bag or a really thin postage tube for that? ;D ;D ;D ;D Come on mate. You've got the skills - you've shown us that many times. Whip one up in an afternoon,,,,,, cook on it that evening. You must have an out of date bottle or two laying around home. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Heeeeey (he says thinking about it) you could even make up a carry bag from left over canvas...... And if you do.... can you make me one too? ? huh, Huh, please? ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog The scrounger

On a similar note. Cut up a 4kg bottle yesterday to fit inside the 9kg ( or 8.5kg as they call them now ). Dropped it inside the 9kg and added a cup of water to the bottom. inside the 4kg put an old stainless steel bowl with heat beads glowing away. This will be my new oven and ....... with a piece of hickory.... smoker. huh huh.... good idea? Tried it out last night. With 9 heat beads it was still warm after 4hours The hickory smoked well and didn't catch on fire. Might just have a new toy. Will give it another cleaning run tonight to get rid of the gas smell and then....... Might just do a roast Cheers Atog
