Since i was last in Wait Awhile mines have sprung up all over the place. I'll have a lash Koolyanobbing, but thats a trillion mile from the above places, but it is inland. They are even digging up salt at Meeka these days. So lock in "C" Koolyanobbing please Eddy. I still say its Texada Salt at Couvier, mind you i haven't been there in almost 40 years Dave

"By Jeez" Dave, Are we the only two on this Forum ? ? ? ? I Didn't think this location would be so hard to name. As I said, you were very close in the previous answer, A clue.........The Settlement is around 8km inland. One more shot and I reckon you'll have it, unless there is another reader out there in " Classic Land " kiwijim

Did you know that Port Hedland moves the highest tonne of cargo from the port in Australia.
Is it Roebourne?

Howdy Donnymarie, "Yep" Headland is sure a busy place, As well as moving the largest tonnage in Aust, it also holds claim to two other prizes, firstly it is the most expensive place in the whole of Aussie to stop in. $ 43.00 per night for a powered camp site that was only big enough for a camper van, Secondly, It is the dirtiest town we have ever come across, as this aerial picture shows......... Every thing is covered in dust as the wind blows dust of the stock pile of Iron Ore sitting at the port waiting for Shipping. Think I will have to give it to you.,,,,,, DAVE, The nearest Settlement to the Salt Pile is South Headland, 8km inland from Headland. cheers kiwijim

I was going to drop South Hedland's name in the pot but thought, nar thats part of Port Hedland.....as such. Its always been a dirty dusty place, and no hounds at any of the van parks either.Bloody top fishing spot though ;D ;D ;D Tomorrow I'll chuck in an easy one to keep the ball rolling. Thanks Jim Dave

G'day Shane, I can't say much in favor of that place, I worked up that way in the early 70's and after seeing it again while on our Around the Block Trip,( a couple of years back now ) I can't say it's improved any in all that time. What we did notice was the shops that had closed down in the main drag, I suppose they have the Super Markets out at South Hedland to thank for that. By the way Dave, they are a bit funny about South Hedland being part of Hedland, Being 8 km out in the sticks, they class it a Satellite City in it's own right, just another un-tidy, un-kept looking N/W Town as far as I'm concerned. It will be a long time before I waste my money going back there again, that's for sure, They can have the Dust, The over priced goods and as you say Those flamin Mozzies. kiwijim

Always though Carnarvon was a bit of a dump. We stayed at the van park that used to be a whaling station many moons ago, went into town for tea and had the almost new HQ 253 two Monaro broken into, then got back to the van park and found the Cargill Caravanette i had borrowed off my dad,had been rifled through.Police weren't interested because of the offenders race. The red dust at the van park was murder. You would go from the shower block back to the van and be covered in red dust before you got back to the van. Carnarvon can go bankrupt for all i care Dave

Something to give us a laugh, didn't know where to put it but I figure someone would move it to the right place ;D
Last weekend at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop I was looking for a little something extra for my wife. What I came across was a 100,000-volt pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on an assailant. The idea is to allow my wife -- who would never consider a gun --adequate time to retreat to safety. WAY TOO COOL!!
Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded in two AAA batteries and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. But then I read (yes, 'read') that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arch of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs and I'd know it was working.
Awesome!!! (Actually, I have yet to explain to my wife what that burn spot is on the face of her stainless steel microwave). Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-a batteries, right?!! There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh and blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?
So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and taser in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries.
So, I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, "don't do it," reasoning that a one-second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad . I decided to give myself a one-second burst just for the heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION @!@$$!%!@*!!!
I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, and body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs.
You should know, if you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a taser, that there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you zap yourself. You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.
SON-OF-A-pregnant dog... that hurt like hell!!! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected what little wits I had left, sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they get up there??? My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I'm still looking for my testicles!! I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return.
Still in shock, Bill
