G'day bobandjacqui,
Those photos remind me of Norfolk Island. I remember watching the locals shift cargo from a freighter anchored away from a wharf that looked just like that. Those blokes don't know the meaning of fear. Ya wouldn't get me in one of those longboats ferrying stuff to the wharf.
If it ain't Norfolk Island, it's a place that looks a lot like it.
cheers, Al.

And the winners is Al. Norfolk is a top spot with plenty of history. They offload the cargo from the ship onto those old boats and ferry the load to the wharf and lift it with the crane in the first pic. There are two wharves on the island so it depends on the weather and the ocean swell which one they use. This is on the opposite side. An old steam engine abandoned. So it's over to you Al. Cheers Bob. PS we'll see you at Crows Nest ;D ;D ;D

I didn't see any caravans when I was on Norfolk Island. You would think that since fibreglass Olympic vans can float, there'd be at least one or two that had been taken over there. Now, this next one is sooooo easy, even Shane (who has not had a WINNER recently ) is likely to get this one... All you have to do is say what's missing from the picture, and where it is... No, not Norfolk Island, nor Lord Howe Island. It's on the mainland (sorry Tassie ), and north of north... cheers, Al.

G'day Andy, You wouldn't think so, what with no tropical palm trees in the landscape, and no flowering plants anywhere, but yes it is in Nth Qld. When Shane said he was feeling 'bushed and that his mind is seeing blank', he was on the right track. Did you HEAR that Shane?? I said you were on the right TRACK!! cheers, Al.

Shane!! Shane!! Where ARE you??! "Shane is on the right TRACK!!", I said. The Kuranda Scenic Railway TRACK!! Ohhh Shane... Most tourist brochure photos show the Stoney Creek Falls from the same position as this one from 1935... But mine was taken as we crossed the bridge, heading up to Kuranda... We did the return trip on the Skyway. I'm not a great fan of heights, so the trip coming back was pretty 'scarey' for me. Especially when you go over the gorge. Anyway, well done young Bob. Over to you... cheers, Al.

Hello Al,
good photo, reckon I have the exact photo myself, we did the train and skyway return as well in 2004. This is where the train stops for photos of the waterfall.
Pretty tricky for the hint Al, here I'm think of track for vehicles.
Well done.
Shane

"Hey Guys" Just as a matter of interest, Has anyone got any photos of old abandon Army gear left in the bush after the war. ? I've always been interested about the story I was told many years ago, How the yanks were supposedly to have driven truck loads of army gear and fuel, into the Rum Jungle in Nth Q.L.D. after the war ended. The story goes that with-in 24 hrs the jungle apparently covered the goods and it's still there (some-where ) today. There are photos floating around of sunken landing craft on the coast of Papua and the Solomon's, the equipment can still be seen on board. No, I haven't got the urge to go scrounging, just interested, that's all. ;D ;D ;D Cheers kiwijim

G'day Jimmy, I don't know how to attach links but if you google up Beautiful Betsy there's an interesting article of a bomber which crashed in 1945 in central Qld and was only found in 1994. Also there's a link in there for wrecks in the Pacific. Cheers Bob ;D ;D

Thanks for that Bob, We were amazed what was still visible around the war time air fields in North Q.L.D when we traveled through there. I would love to come across an old jeep or even a tank, then fiddle with it until I got it to fire up, Reckon that would be some achievement to cap off a pretty exciting life. ;D ;D cheers kiwijim

This Kittyhawk was pulled out of a New Guinea swamp and restored. By the looks of the original photos there was a pretty hefty replacement program going on ... Most of the ally was too far gone to use. The wings had large bullet holes in them and were to corroded to use. Some of the replaced bits are on display in the Mareeba Airfield display building. Cost over 1.5 million to restore..... and then this happened. It's flying again.. the photo was taken in 2009 Atog
