Hi this is my first post so please excuse any mistakes. The viscount general information was really informative and from reading that I believe I have an early 70's viscount ambassador and would be interested in any information about the van e.g. How the 12v power should work which is does not even with connected to the car or if there is some sort of owners manual /schematics that can help as I would like to renovate the van back to its original form without making to many changes it has incredible charm and has original fridge which needs some cleaning but I have been told can work on gas 12v or 240v I have used the 240v but have no idea about the other 2 options any help or direction to look for more information would be really appreciated thank you so much regards William

Hi William, Welcome to our Classic Caravans forum. The forum fosters vans from 1970 to 1980, & we welcome all comers interested in Classics. You are welcome to start your own thread in the “Hall of Fame”, there you can post images from a third party such as Photobucket, Tinypic, Flickr etc. Our sister forum Vintage Vans (1970 & earlier) have many duel members looking in, so ask any info about your project. The fact that nothing works on 12v or 240v would have me seeking a qualified person for starters, then you may able to proceed with DIY under guidance. Your original fridge would be a 3 way, they are recoverable at times, see the image link & post us some pics. linkCheers Brent

Welcome William, your post reminds me about my 12volt not working. Luckily i saw one reason as when the traffic lights did not work the owner had a new cable & flat 7 pin ( that he said was on it) after giving me for free a 7 round to 7 flat converter set, a very hasty rewire with the old ripped off & chucked aside. Anyone know if there is a standard point where the 12v should hook onto the caravan?

Gidday gvh Welcome aboard. My experience with 12 volt and early caravans has been the earth wire not connecting properly. Dirty connections due to road use and age. We often have trouble with the 12 volt on our collectible.. You need to check your source first, the car, to make sure you are getting 12v power from it and the earth is connected correctly. Check out your plugs car connect to caravan first. Plug Wiring Diagram12volt in a 70s+ fridge is only ever going to be 'OK' when your on the move and wanting your fridge to maintain its temperature. Its very unlikely it will get a fridge to cool from off... bobt
