I am very pleased with my 2010 Renault Koleos Dynamique 2.5 with CVT. It shares the drivetrain with Nissan X-Trail, but the Renault is slightly bigger in the body, the wheelbase and track. Even the fwd version still it tows 2 tonnes. Great economy. Love the leather seats and all the gadgets - only problem is I still can't to set the clock for daylight saving time and yes, I have followed the instructions!

Nice towing capacity but how much weight can be put on the towbar? My Magna can take only 90Kg which can be a problem.

The Koleos is 200kg ball weight, but some modern cars are as low as 50kg. 90kg sounds enough. I have my van balanced to about 75kg on the ball and it tows fine. I think with fwd you dont want a huge weight on the ball. You see some vans with big tool boxes 2 gas bottles aircon etc on the front. I like to keep it light.

I agree with keep it light, the structure of the Franklin Arrow and many other vans for that matter are not designed to use as a cargo trailer. I guess that keeping the van up to 1200 kg will be ideal. I bought a weight distribution system just in case that I have to shift more weight to the front of the car. Mitsubishi allows 1500 kg towing capacity, my towbar is rated 1600 kg, 90 kg on the ball.

My previous van was just under 10ft with a GVM of 830kg but had quite a heavy ball weight around 90kg. Then I updated to newer car, with more towing capacity but lower ball weight. I had to relocate the caravan axle 40mm forward to get the ball weight down under 75kg. My present 14ft van is a lot bigger and heavier at 1180kg GVM but has lower ball weight. Its no longer an issue with the Koleos being 2000/200. Perhaps the independent suspension on the van lets it track well without a heavy nose weight. Much easier on me and the car to have a manageable ball weight. Let the caravan wheels take the weight I reckon.
