Howdy one and all, Yep this ole fella is still alive and still looking for the next Classic to spend a fortune on.
Things have been a bit slow lately, the legs have almost given out on this ole Bloke ( 70 come Oct ) and this makes it a bit harder or slower to race out and look at vans for-sale, always second in the Que doesn't help in grabbing a bargain.
I'm beginning to wonder if I have enough time left to do another Classic, the last one, the Thomson Gleneagle took over 5 years to get it road worthy and at a cost of over $20.000, even though I sold it over 4 years ago now, we still refer to it as being the best van we have had out of the 39 I've owned, I suggested to the wife the other day that I was thinking of going and buying it back again, after putting up with banging my head on the roof lifting arms on the Jayco Pop Top which we now have, not a patch on the old Classic. "Dang Me" if SWMBO agreed it was a lovely comfy van and it sure bought back some great memories of our trip around the Block over 4 years ago, time we hit the road again I reckon.
Till we hear from all you great people out there again, Keep on with the Classic's
Cheers Kiwijim.

Holy guacamole! - He lives!!! And here I was thinking he must have gone to the great caravan park in the sky, but No!, he still walks amongst us!! (even if it is a bit slower ) Great to hear from you again, kiwijim. I read somewhere recently about somebody saying their 92-year old father or grandfather still hooks up his van and drives up to Qld for the winter each year from Victoria, so there's still plenty of time left in you yet! Yeah, why not see if you can buy the ol' Thomson back off the people? Stranger things have happened, hey? You never know...it might be sitting out in the open somewhere going to waste. cheers, Al.

Howdy Guy's "Yep" 4 Years since we sold off the Thomson, I'm now convinced that was the biggest mistake we ever made. I've had another 4 vans since then but all modern junk, sure they've had all the modern cons in them but there are the draw-backs to them as well, As many of you know , we love to bush camp and there-fore, when there is a shower in the van one has to cart 100's of lt of water just to use it and keep SWMBO happy, all extra weight. Then there are the extras one has in a modern van , such as air-con, micro wave, internal battery and charger, just to name a few, These take power to run there-fore the next thing this Idiot does, is go out and buy a 4.4 kva genny which weigh's a ton to lift and costs a small fortune to run. "Nup" they can stick the new "Big White Box's" they have nothing going for them, not like a 40 year old van has when you have spent years skinning you knuckles on them. I still remember the first day we hit the road when the Thomson was finished, how proud I felt after 5 years of restoration, and the comments we received were amazing. I always remember a women we met in a camp in the N.T., they had one of those massive new White Box's, she came up to us and with a genuine Shocked look on her face and said.... " Good God". We saw you down in Victoria, How on earth did you get here ? Stupid question. Just proves, A CLASSIC always stands out in a crowd. Well I've spotted another van on Perth "Gumtree", looks pretty neat and it was made in the old Country, Kiwi-land that is, It's a 1969 Crusader .... www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/carramar/caravan/carravan-crusader/1049210476They are asking a fare bit for it so, I will make an offer and see how I go, nothing lost nothing gained. Cheers all Kiwijim

That Crusader looks to be in pretty neat condition, kiwijim. Probably be a bit small for you guys though, for lengthy trips. No fun climbing over each other to get into the transverse bed. And yes, that Thomson van was a real eye-catcher. Best you go find it and buy it back. At least you know exactly what's wrong with it. cheers, Al.

Hey Jim Mate if you can't get the Thomson back, there's a vintage English van in a Newcastle shed I know of... member of VV. Not sure if he'd part with it or not.... but it needs a lot of repairs

Well. well. well It sure is great to see a few of the old names popping up again. Howdy there, Andy and Atog great to see you guys are still on board as well, thanks for the tip on the English van Atog. it;s very tempting and the weather would sure be better up your way, than what it is here in Perth. unfortunately I have to go into hospital shortly. the ole legs have finally packed up on me, the Quack put it down to smoking but I,m thinking it.s more like spending too long under caravans. I.ll Just have to wait a couple of months and see how things pan out in the future.
cheers kiwijim
