Hi,
Does anyone have a VC Valiant or XP or XM Falcon, around 1965 - 1966 model, that you tow with? What motors have you got in them? Do they handle towing well? What economy to do get when towing?
Can get heaps of info about economy around town etc, but haven't been able to track down any info for economy when towing - Can anyone help please?
Any other info also appreciated.
Thanks.
Peter.

Had a xp 200 auto in the early 70's and towed a 16ft coronet from Melbourne to sapphire fields and back to SA with only a minor problem. If doing it today I would put in a transmission cooler if its auto as it got hot a couple times Tenterfield to Casino. Plenty power and stoped ok. The van had cable over ride brakes. Pete

Used to borrow a mates VC Valiant to tow a car trailer with. It had a 273 which was later upgraded to a 318. It towed a heavy load well as far as power went, but the front end wandered a bit. The torsion bar suspension in the front may have been the issue or worn steering, not sure but it drove fine without the trailer. Still ok though, and I would still happily use one for such work. I like the VC's a lot though, so I'll never bag them out much...

when I was a little tac my ol'man had a new vc, he towed a 14' franklin behind it to Rockhampton and back we did that trip every summer school holidays. I recall seeing 70mph on the speedo and him getting annoyed when we were overtaken by a Chev towing a similar size caravan.
I will ask him if he has any photos. But way back then the vc with 3 speed auto and the 225 slant six was an impressive family car.
