Hi all, us novices must be right pains in the neck, with all the stuff we dont know, any way here's my question and thankyou for your help in advance. My Franklin van has override brakes that is completely hydraulic, so we before the brakes engage. Is there an adjustment screw anywhere within the system? Thanks Rutho not have the brake cable I saw in the great diagram that has already been posted. The problem we have is there seems to a lot of slack/travel in the system before the brakes apply and it is very clunky . My other half has had the wheels off and every thing is working, although we do have a slight leak in the slave cylinder by the drivers side wheel. How do we take up the slack and stop the clunk of the spring housing against the hitch

Hi. If you have a leaking slave cylinder its a good idea to fix or replace it before you tickle up the brakes. I have hydraulic brakes on my Franklin, and the slave cylinders could only be matched to old valiant wheel cylinders at a brake shop as there was no seal kit for this model. To adjust the brakes, you need 2 flat head screw drivers. There is a slot at the bottom of the back of the backing plate. One screw driver is used to disengauge the locking lever and the other is to turn the serated edge of the adjusting screw. ( not that easy) Keep adjusting the the screw til the brakes grab the drum and you cant turn the wheel. Then reverse the turn of the screw til the wheel turns and you can feel the barke shoes just touching the drum. Do the other side and your done. Scotty PS is this what the brake looks like?

Scotty, your brakes are identical to mine, you say you need 2 screwdrivers to adjust the brakes - after the first adjustment it has automatic adjustments after each brake usage, that is the little cable rising from the adjuster to above the wheel cylinder do it from there on. This brake system is Wagner USA cylinders with a 7/8" bore. I would be interested to know what your valiant wheel cylinders bore is as it may affect braking efficiency, thanks for your help, regards, norm
