Hi Folks I'm after some info on a Chesney Pop-top Caravan (see image) its aluminum clad with fiberglass pop-top for head space only Was wondering what year it may be and also what the Gross, Tare & Hitch weights would be for this model as the ID plate on the tow hitch is missing but it is stamped with "CJ 33857" which I'm guessing is manufacturers ID. The Length & Layout are 12'L x 7'W Front bench seats & table (collapsible) mid kitchen, and rear lounge that folds down to double bed Any info would be grateful Many thanks Gary C Attachments:

G'day Gary, and welcome to the forum! ;D
I've never seen one of these Chesney poptops before, so I'll have to do a bit of guessing.
The painted stripe and Chesney label are typical of what was used on Chesney vans in the mid-1970s. I think you'd be pretty close if you picked a year from 1974 to 1976. We haven't come across enough Chesney chassis numbers to know how that number you've given fits in.
In terms of weights, I'd be thinking a 12ft poptop would have a tare weight of about 650kgs. The rego authorities would typically allow up to 300kgs loading allowing for single axle vans, so your Gross Vehicle Mass could be up around 950kgs. Using the time-honoured method of taking 10% of the GVM as the ball weight, you should set the van up (ie. distribute the 300kgs loading allowance) so that the ball weight of your fully loaded van is about 95kgs.
To be really sure of caravan weights, the best thing is to take the empty van over a weighbridge and see what it really weighs.
Hope this helps.
cheers, Al.
