I just signed up to Classic Caravans so this post is just to introduce myself. I'm total novice when it comes to caravans but we just took our Capricorn Birdie Delux on it's maiden voyage to Dalesford for Australia day. I've found this forum very entertaining and informative and I hope to put a few questions to the gurus here soon. Attachments:

G'day t-d-g, and welcome to the forum! ;D Your little Capricorn pretty much IS the ducks guts!! She looks to be in quite good condition, and is from the later part of the 1970s, I reckon. I had a 15ft Capricorn that had the chassis number 1284 stamped on it, and that van seemed to be from around 1973. Have a read of this thread to show where the chassis number was: 1973 Capricorn Newstar Deluxe 15ft 1284What's the story about how you came across your van? cheers, Al.

I wanted a van from the same era as the car and it had to be small due to storage issues. After watching a couple of vans on Ebay, I saw the Birdie at a dealer in Geelong and bought it on the spot. It's in great shape for the age and very original. The only problem so far is the fridge. I've read a lot on this site about fridges and will soon remove it to try the 'turnover' method.
Thanks for the responses, the chassis# is 2456 so it's a bit newer than the Newstar you had Al. The plywood shelves are date stamped 1974. I'll try to take some pics of the interior when the weather cools off a little. Cheers, Phil.

Here's the pics of the interior. While taking them I noticed that the stove has a date stamp, 1975. Attachments:

So no contributions from Biride owners since Feb, 2011. Just got mine and eager to hear from other owners. She's from 1971, 11 feet and in pretty good shape for a 43-year-old. I'm not a traditionalist so the interior will be changing mightily, and that faux panelling will be disappearing forever. Loving every minute so far.

Thanks for the welcome! Will start a new thread when I've read up on how to do it and add some photos, too. As I work in my Birdie, it feels like a bird blind because the New Holland honeyeaters in my garden are just outside the windows. A bonus pleasure in my makeover. So that's my avatar, and the decor wll have to include this cute little Aussie birdie.

Welcome to the limited ranks of Capricorn Birdie Deluxe owners. Our Birdie Deluxe is nearing completion after a total rebuild. All we need to do is put the roof cladding on, windows and door and dozen other jobs :-)

Love seeing your Capricorn. I bought mine just recently, too, and just out of Geelong!
