;DHi. we have a 1970's ESCORT van and needed a few parts here and there. I have discovered from being a member on this site that the Escort is now a vERY rare species!! However I love our Escort and am keen to continue to do her up. Before I found and joined this site I googled everywhere for a Caravan wreckers and it appears they too are very rare! It just so happened that we were going on our yearly holidays to Newcastle NSW Jan 2011 and came across this FABULOUS place in Karloo Rd, Redhead. There is a lady there that knows everything about anything that opens and shuts about ANY caravan. Man she is a freak. She is actually the one who dismantles the vans and what she doesn't know is not worth knowing. She is a walking encyclopedia on vans and can find even the smallest part for you. I am not sure if I am able to write the name of the shop or not. I would like to as they saved me hours of searching for rare parts. Am I able to write their contact details to help others??/ Rachel

G'day Rachel, Sure you are! ;D I think you might have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Do you know how the business operates? Do they have a website? Do they sell bits and pieces through a mail-order system, or do you have to go to their place to get what you want? Sounds like the sort of place I could be friends with very quickly! ;D cheers, Al.

8-)one bit of info the lady said when I was questioning her about the date of rego on our van (previous owner has it as a 1984 model. From this site I have learnt from Al of Millard 1399, that Escorts were not made after 1975) ditzygypsy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=1262 All vans in the 70's were white, in the 80s they moved to cream exteriors. All info helps when you are trying to find the history of your van.

Hi AL. They are brilliant. Didnt know if I was able to mention names or not but here is the info. The lady is Mel and she is the pot of gold at the end I can tell you. I told her about this site .She wasnt sure if she was allowed to join as she has a vested interest I guess! Said she would love to as she just loves old vans. She even lives in one on the premises!!! Anyway they are called Hodgsons Caravans 02 49426233 contactus@hodgsonscaravans.com.au they dont appear to have a web page but if it is something particular you are after just phone and ask for MEL.

I had a look on the internet, and no they don't appear to have a website. They are listed in one of the local business directories on the internet with the following description:
"Hodgsons Caravans is a family operated business located 15 minutes South of Newcastle CBD. We offer caravan storage and have a large variety of spare parts new, used & accessories."

Hi Michael. I would definitely give MEL a ring at Hodgsons Caravans is a family operated business located 15 minutes South of Newcastle CBD. This lady Mel is a freak in what she knows about old caravans. Over the phone she can even help you as she is like a caravan walking encyclopaedia. Seriously! I have used them 3 more times since I first put this post up and have not been disappointed.

This forum caters for (mainly) caravans from the 1970s. For a 1992 van, you'd need to post your request on one of the other caravan forums.

Just a further bit of info re Hodgsons in Newcastle. When we visited our kids in Newcastle last year we needed to store our van as there was no parking alongside my sons unit. Hodgsons will store and retrieve your van in their yard. Cost us $60 for a week , just drop it off and they park and retrieve your van. Really convenient. Pete
